10 Tips For Surviving Game Day Without Letting The Pre-Game Bench You

Whether or not your football team wins at the actual game of just the tailgate, game days are some of the best days of the school year. From the tailgating to the cheering, here are 10 tips on how to survive the heat, crazy fans, and dehydration.

1. Bring A Reusable Water Bottle

Bring a reusable water bottle! Especially in the South, sitting in the direct sunlight at 12pm can make you feel incredibly thirsty, and they up the prices of water like crazy. Bring a disposable water bottle and you can fill it up as many times as you want to! (tip: Empty it before you go in because they don't let you bring liquids into the stadium.)

2. Dress For Comfort Over Fashion

Giphy

Don't get me wrong… You can totally be freakin' adorable while dressing for comfort. I'm just saying don't try to make an outfit work that you are not 100% comfortable in, because once you are in the 100 degree heat, you won't care if you look cute or not. I recommend an oversized jersey over biker shorts, shorts and a festive team tee, or a denim skirt and crop top. There are SO many comfy options that don't sacrifice fashion.

3. Bring A Clear Bag!

Giphy

This is a new rule for this coming season. Unless you don't need a bag, invest in a cute clear one! Target has some and you can also find them at so many boutiques!

4. Chapstick

Giphy

You will not regret binging chapstick! You actually lose moisture from your lips more than anywhere else on your body when you sweat! SPF chapstick is useful too so you don't burn your lips!

5. Sunscreen

Giphy

This is a given, but you will, without a doubt, get sunburnt if you do not slap on some sunscreen before the game.

6. Hair-ties

Giphy

Pack some hair ties in that clear bag of yours because as cute as your hair looks whether its curled, straight, or all natural, (like I've said before…) it is HOT! You will probably have your hair in a high pony by the end of the first quarter.

7. Have Your Phone At Full Charge!

Giphy

It takes more phone battery than you'd imagine for that snap of the field at sunset to go onto your story…

8. Phone Fan

Giphy

Another reason your phone should be fully charged! Bring a phone fan! It plugs right into your charging port on your phone and will help keep you cool! Companies give these out all the time for free so snag one if you can!

9. Sunglasses

Giphy

I mean this one is kinda obvious. It's bright. Sunglasses help.

10. Your Best Pals!

Giphy

Nothing beats an incredible game day with your best friends! With your pals it won't matter if your team wins!

Stay safe in that Summertime heat, and have fun! GO PIRATES!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
