If you're working at Chipotle, you get to see some truly rude customers. Others are extremely pleasant and kind, but it's surprising how many haven't seemed to have learned proper manners. Chipotle is a fast-paced, upbeat restaurant that seeks to provide a unique dining experience. When coming in to get your Chipotle fix, remember these few things to do/not do to make the employees a little less angry to be serving a rude customer.
1. Please get off your phone when ordering.
It's incredibly rude to be fully engaged in a phone conversation when someone is trying to take your order. Can't it wait 30 seconds? At speedy Chipotle's, that's literally how long it will take to get your food through the line if you cooperate.
2. Yes, I know you know guac is extra, but I'm obligated to remind you in case you don't know.
You wouldn't believe the amount of times I get, "Yes, I know guac is extra, I hear it every time." Well, you also wouldn't believe the people who try and mooch free guac, claiming they had no idea it was extra.
3. Greet the employee with a smile, not immediately with your order.
"Burrito." Well, OK, sir. Comin' right up for ya. I'll make sure to skimp you on your food due to your lack of kindness.
4. You don't have to list each item you want as slow as molasses. I'll remember what you said.
People take literally 10 seconds between listing each food item as if I won't remember. You can go ahead and tell me your order a tad bit faster so you get your food sooner and I get to the next customer quicker.
5. The grill work behind the food line is extremely loud, and it makes it very hard to hear you when you mumble.
Speaking loud and clear is one of the nicest things you could do for an employee. It saves time and me from repeating myself.
6. If you're polite and kind, chances are you're going to get a heftier portion of your meal over the rude guy.
Do good, feel good, right? Of course I'll be more inclined to give larger portions than normal to the kind person who took their time out of their day to ask me how I'm doing, or even greeted me with a smile.
