Hi all, hopefully you’re all looking forward to another amazing school year! Here are some tips and tricks to help make it an awesome one!
1. Fake Deadlines
The best way to stay on top of things is to trick yourself into thinking the deadline is sooner than it is! For example, if you have a paper due on Friday, make note of it being due on Wednesday, so that if you can convince yourself is really is due on Wednesday, you’ll most likely have some extra wiggle room in the process of getting it done instead of scrambling at the last minute to get it done!
2. Keep Classes and Assignments Color Coordinated
Buying binders that match the most prominent color on your textbook is a super easy way to be sure that you always have the right items for each class. You could even take a picture of the cover of your textbook, print it out, and tape it to the front of the binder; this way, you could be super sure that what you’re grabbing is what you actually need! Keeping your classes organized by book and binder make it a little easier to stay on top of all your work!
3. Stay on Top Of Your Studying
This one is most likely the hardest one to follow, mainly because after a day full of classes, all we really want is to relax. However, spending 10-15 minutes going over your notes from that day will help you absorb more of what you learned, especially since most time spent in class is just blind copying. Spending 10-15 minutes a night reviewing each subject’s notes that you took that day will making studying for a test a lot easier.
4. Bribe Yourself
Make little deals with yourself to make studying and homework sound fun. For example, studying intently for 30 minutes will earn you 10 minutes of social media time. Doing it this way and setting a timer for each chunk of time will help you stay focused, because you have a good idea of when to expect a break and when to pay attention to what you’re actually studying.
5. Make Sure You’re Comfortable
This one is super important. Because everyone learns differently, it is pretty important to be sure the way you’re trying to learn is comfortable for you. For example, I know my handwriting is sloppy, so I feel more comfortable typing my notes, and it works so well for me. Finding what works for you and the way you learn is one of the greatest ways to enjoy your school work and to feel good about doing so.
6. Make Sure You Have No Other Distractions
This one is a no-brainer. Turning your phone on airplane mode or "do not disturb" can really help create a quiet space where you aren’t tempted to turn around and check your phone because it’s constantly ringing. This also goes for any other devices you may have, such as a computer, tablet, music, etc. Finding a quiet place and silencing all of your devices can better help you focus on what you’re doing, which can help you do better in the long run.
7. Have a Good Attitude
Having a good attitude about the task at hand or your ability to do the things you’re trying to accomplish can make all the difference. Treating school work and other tasks with a good attitude can make a huge difference. Having a good attitude will make you feel better about having to do it, while looking at it with a bad attitude will feel like you’re trudging through it.
