Tinder Your Heart Out

Swipe right. I dare you.

Even though I openly despise Tinder, I must admit that I find myself toying with fate by the swipe of my finger more often than I would like to admit.

Tinder is notoriously known as a one-stop shop for people only looking to hook up. In other words, if they are DTF or not.

But as of late, I have been hearing more and more success stories coming out of Tinder. A close friend of mine recently came across a hot looking foreign guy. Like me and every other college girl in the US, without thinking, she swiped right. He’s a foreign hottie and who could say no to a guy with an accent. The rest was history. As Calvin Harris would say, they “fell in love as the leaves turned brown”, but in this case, literally. He was from Australia and sadly had to go back home. BUT, don't you worry, this was not the end of her Tinderella fairytale. They still continue to talk and FaceTime every day! Even with a seventeen-hour time difference their relationship has gotten stronger and he is even coming back in a month to visit her for 3 weeks. Will he become her permanent #mancrushmonday?

Even five years ago, something like this would NEVER happen. Online dating has become less of a taboo and now basically a game to see if the person is “down” merely based on the five allotted pictures you upload on to your profile.

If you are like me and are not looking for Tinder love, there is still something you can get out of this thumb workout. The self-confidence you gain from discovering you were matched with that hot little number on Tinder you swiped right for, is a better feeling than fitting into those tight jeans you’ve been working out for all summer. This goes out to both guys and girls.  Especially you Fratstars. The next time you don’t feel like yo sexy self, go on Tinder. Explore the people in your area that you would most likely never have come across in real life. I dare you to swipe right on that next surfer, photographer, or hipster- whatever you’re into (hey, you do you, boo). The tiny adrenaline rush you get from that .6 of a second before you know if you were matched is all worth it.

So whether you are looking for love, a one-night stand, or just a little confidence booster, give Tinder a shot. The possibilities are endless. Hey, maybe you’ll be telling your future grandkids you met their grandpa or grandma on the old Tinder.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
