Taking Time For Yourself Is SO Important

Taking Time For Yourself Is SO Important
Laura Schoek

I am one of those people who likes to go one hundred miles per hour until I crash and can no longer even do anything else because I am physically and emotionally drained. Something that has caused a (not so easy) awakening for me is that I cannot do it all. Being involved in about 15 clubs is way too much to handle and will wear you down.

Last night, I sat down in my bed and was beyond worn out. I decided I needed to change this. Why? Because I needed to take some time for myself. If you do not take time for yourself here are 5 potential things that could happen:

1. You are constantly stressed. This can take on forms of stress-eating, procrastination due to stress, and so many other things.

2. You are worn out - enough said.

3. You are emotionally drained... you cry at random things and laugh hysterically at who knows what.

4. You are weak. You struggle to get up the stairs because you are out of breath, etc.

5. You are moody. You have mood swings of high moments and lows because you are simply worn out, stressed, emotionally drained, and weak.

I am one of the people who fails to take time for myself but I am working to change that. If that is a struggle of yours, let's overcome it together. Here are some methods I am using to change my issue of taking NO time for myself:

1. Sit down and journal—right down how exhausted you are or how good or bad your day was.

2. Pray. Spend time with God and talk about everything going on.

3. Workout—even a thirty-minute workout is amazing for you! GO out and do it!

4. Watch a movie. Invite a friend over, order takeout, and watch a cheesy romance.

You are not alone in this struggle of overcommitment or never taking time for yourself. I average about 15 meetings a week. I average about 4-5 hours of sleep a night. And I need to change. If you are like me in this aspect, let's push ourselves to live a life of taking time for ourselves. Sit down, watch a movie, and enjoy life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
