For years, smoking cigarettes plagued the nation, with little to no research to make people aware that cigarettes are deadly, causing cancer and gum disease. Even once the research surfaced to tell people they could die from smoking, people continued to smoke.
Flash forward to today: smoking cigarettes seemed to be something that wouldn't carry onto the next generation. However, it now appears that all hope is lost because vaping has taken over the market.
Vaping, also known as Juuling thanks to the popular brand, is the electronic way of smoking that causes no smoke. While in retrospect this may seem safer, and is often even branded as a healthy alternative to smoking that still provides the nicotine many become addicted to, Juuling is extremely dangerous to one's health.
There are many unknown substances that go into a Juul that can cause cancer, but the main issue is that Juuls, like cigarettes, still have nicotine in them. Nicotine is an addictive substance that completely alters your brain and leads to unforeseen side affects that people do not consider when picking up a Juul pod.
One of the worst issues with Juuling today is that it has targeted the younger audience that many thought would be spared from cigarettes. High schoolers and even middle schoolers who can easily buy Juuls at gas stations who don't ask for ID's, or ask others to buy Juuls for them, are using Juuls in school.
The FDA is currently focusing on measures to regulate Juuls to keep them away from youth, but in the meantime I beg everyone, college students as well, to stop Juuling. It's not "cool" and it's not "fun," it's just harmful. Do you really want to die one day knowing you could have kept yourself healthy if you just wouldn't have participated in Juuling?
