Daylight Savings began this weekend (Sunday the 10th), but that one hour less of sleep will be totally worth it in the months to come. With the spring forward in time follows warmer weather, lighter clothing, and more sunlight to take in -- which means more time to spend outdoors!
The first thing that everyone looks forward to during this season is packing up their heavy jackets and wool scarves and pulling out their capris and sandals. Long gone are the frigid temperatures, and in their place we now see higher, more comfortable numbers. And don't forget to break out those sunglasses!
On college campuses around the country, students begin to emerge from their dorms and take a break from their Netflix binges to go outside and enjoy this warmer, more satisfying season. Quads and Greens across the nation will be covered by young people playing sports, dancing, running, studying, reading, napping, and taking in what is sure to be beautiful weather. The sun will stay up longer and parents will let their kids come in later after hours of playing outside.
Warmer weather and dry grounds make picnics possible. A game of catch can go on for hours. Bikes and skateboards will hoard up the sidewalks, and walking to the store or across campus will be less of a dreaded chore. Say goodbye to your bedroom walls and drab air, and hello to some grass and fresh air. Sometimes a change of atmosphere can help you to be more productive with studying or another assignment.
There are so many spring activities that don't cost much, if they even cost anything, such as hiking or going to a park. Nature is especially beautiful after the spring forward, and more flowers will blossom as leaves begin to grow back on trees. At night, the weather is cool enough to comfortably go stargazing, or grab a late night sweet treat.
The sweetest fruits are back in season, so try something like strawberry picking! Now is also the best time of year to be on the look out for a rainbow. It's also the perfect weather to take a trip to the zoo, go bird watching, and even pick some fresh flowers to bring home and brighten up your room.
It's also the beginning of bonfire season! This means s'mores and hanging out with family and friends late at night even after the sun sets. This is the season to open your windows at night and enjoy the cool air before going to sleep. It's the perfect weather to watch the sun rise and set, too, so find out the best location if you're looking for a beautiful sight.
All in all, Daylight Savings marks the beginning of a fun and exciting time of year. The beautiful weather makes for a great reason to try new things!
