Time, the only thing you could never get back. The thing you're always loosing track of and wishing you could get more of. The one thing in this world that stops for no one. There isn't a day that’s gone by where I haven’t heard someone wish they had more time to do something or be with someone. It makes you think about what it is you're doing and if you're going to wish you had more time doing it later on. These people we wish to spend more time with, these things we wish we had more time to do, these are what matter most. These are the things we should continue to do, the people we should continue letting into our lives and keeping them there. On the flip side, there hasn't been a day go by that I haven't heard someone wish they were older, wish they were out of school or able to drink or go out on their own.
I saw a lot of this when I was in high school, I see it, even more, being out in the world. People go through this stage in their life where all they want is to be out of high school, out of their parent's house and on their own. They wish they were old enough to buy their own liquor, do whatever their heart desires without getting in trouble with mom and dad. They so badly want to live that college life and have no worries. They spend all this time begging to be done, dragging through life with their head in the sand until they get out. When they finally get to graduation and out of their parent's clutches they find themselves in college. It's all new and exciting, they can stay out as long as they wish, they can go party and get wild. It's only a matter of time until they get bored with that only to wish they were out of college. Now that they see how easy and stress-free those high school teenage years were they wish they could go back or that they would have at least lived a little more during them.
Now they just want out into the real, real world. They want the job and the house, they want the wife and the kids. Now their time is consumed with work, working to the top and saving all the money earned to get there. They wish to be president or CEO, they don’t want to be low man on the totem pole, they want to be on top of the world. Spending all their efforts chasing money that won't matter and a job that means nothing, giving up their current time all the while wishing they were back in those college days, those teen years or the days where all they had to worry about was what kind of a juice box they wanted and when nap time was.
When they finally make it to the top, when they finally have what they've been wishing for they can only wish to be retired, to be old enough to be done with it all. People spend their whole life wishing to be in the future without even living in the present. They look back at their past with regret and continue to change absolutely nothing about their current time. Now that they're retired, old and frail they can finally relax. Their children have children, their spouse has made it this far without killing them, all should be golden now. While trying to make a living their whole life, they forgot to make a life. Instead of appreciating the time they were in while in it, they wished only to be older. Their parents have passed, their bodies aren't working like they once did but the biggest change of all? Now all they want is to be younger. Now that the only thing to wish ahead for is death they get scared and only want to be back in their younger years. My father wasn't much for giving profound life advice, but one evening we were talking in the pool, just the two of us and he told me something I could never forget, “Time moves a lot faster as you get older, never wish it away.” I didn't completely understand what he meant by time moving faster, young and naive I figured I was invincible, now I see how wrong I truly was. As you get older, you're blessed with all that life has to offer. You start working, going to college, get married and having kids. There are promotions and opportunities that can't be turned away. There's always going to be something going on in your life and even if you take a break time will not stop moving. Appreciate the time you're currently in, live every second with as much positivity and good vibes as possible. Always wish all the best for yourself, friends and family but never wish your time away. When you get to the end of all your wishes to be ahead in life you'll only find yourself wishing you could go back. You're going to get where you're going regardless, wishing to get there isn't going to get you there any faster, it's only going to waste the time you’ll never be able to get back.
