Thoughts You Have In Your Early 20s

Being an adult is hard.

What exactly happens in your twenties? When you leave those wonderful teenage years, countless new experiences await. Of course that golden birthday dubbed "twenty-fun" is a highlight, but after that, internships, full-time jobs, and having to function as an adult all come in like a wrecking ball. Some of your friends are getting married and starting families, while others are chasing Pokemon. When will you evolve into your fully evolved form though? Who knows. But your 20s are all about living and learning. Here are a few thoughts you have after starting this new chapter.

1. "I'm literally tired all the time."

Whether you have your first full time job or just a full time internship, the sleepiness is real. 40 hours a week seemed to be easy when you worked at the ice cream parlor or the golf course, but doing that Monday through Friday grind where you have to be on your game constantly is a different story. Didn't like coffee before? Well now you do. Who knew a 9:30 bedtime would sound so great again?

2. "Help me I'm poor."

Basically the first of the month when rent is due and those bills that show up in your mailbox are the bane of your existence. You find yourself using the phrase "HOW much does that cost?" and "Where has all of my money gone?" very often, and you actually look for a money tree at the greenhouse. (Worth a shot right?) You miss the days when your parents would give you a $20 when you were going to the movies with your friends, but now you have to pay for your water and electricity and wifi all on your own. Which, you find out, its heinously expensive. Fingers crossed you have a roommate or 5 to split this with. Living paycheck to paycheck takes on a whole new meaning.

3. "I want a dog/cat/pony/aardvark to play with and have as my own."

Especially after moving away from home permanently or for an extended period of time, we all think getting a pet will make life so much better. Who doesn't love a snuggly companion that can be your best friend and greet you when you get home from work? Some people take the plunge and get cute furry friends. Others look at their studio apartment on the 12th floor of a high-rise that has no grass for about 5 square miles and decide Fido might be better off on a farm somewhere running around and chasing birds. Also, tons of places have high "pet rent" and a flat rate of a few hundred dollars just to have the pet! WHAT? I just need a companion guys come on why make it so expensive.

4. "Everyone has their lives together and I'm just over here doing this."

I truly don't think anyone has their lives completely together. Some people are just better at hiding the chaos that is their life than others. Your 20s are about figuring a few things out and maybe finding the path you want to be on. Live a little. Whoever and wherever you are is right where you're supposed to be! Adulting is hard, but it'll get easier (I hope). Just keep doing you and all of the pieces will fall into place.

At times you'll want to go back to the good old days, but your 20s are a gift that shouldn't be taken for granted. Yeah we all mess up sometimes, we're only human, so spend too much money on yourself sometimes and continue to do what you love! It's okay to cut unimportant people out of your life, you have very limited time these days. Just have some fun, smile and wave a little, pretend you know what you're doing, and show your 20s who's boss.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
