Thoughts I Had During Winter Storm Jonas

Unless you've been completely disconnected this past week, you know that the east coast just got hit with Winter Storm Jonas, also called #Snowpocalypse and #Snowzilla on Twitter. While most people were excited to finally see some winter weather, I was ready to hunker down inside for the long haul. Wheelchairs and snow aren't exactly the best combination. Thankfully, I made it through unscathed, with not so much as a power outage. However, the past 36 hours were still pretty crazy. Here are some of the thoughts that were going through my head:

1. "It has begun."

2. "I hope I got enough food; at least I have pizza."

3. "Oh, it's actually kind of pretty! My backyard looks like a Christmas card."

4. *A few hours later* "Not pretty anymore! It's too much and we're going to die."

5. *Sees pictures of people playing in snow on Facebook* "That looks like so much fun! I want to have a snowball fight!"

6. *Goes outside for 30 seconds* "Nope, nope, nope, I was wrong. Outside is bad."

7. "You know, now would be a good time to get ahead on some of the reading for my classes."

8. *Goes on internet* "Oh, look, Chelsea Handler has a new Netflix series!"

9. "Oh, what the hell; it's not like we're going to school on Monday anyway." *Watches "Chelsea Does" for four hours*

10. "All I can see out my window is a big, white wall."

11. "I wonder if I could strap a shovel to my wheelchair and become a plow."

12. "I don't think I'll be able to leave my house for a while."

13. "Did the lights just flicker? Electricity, please don't fail me now!"

14. "I don't think my wheels can go through all that white stuff."

15. "Well, at least school is cancelled tomorrow, so I don't have to worry about it just yet."

I hope that everyone is staying warm and having a good time! Enjoy the days off while they last!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
