7 Thoughts That Every College Student Has About Returning To School

With August nearing its end and school supplies being advertised everywhere, it's very obvious that the back-to-school season is approaching. With less than two weeks until move-in day, I can't help but feel a variety of different emotions about going back to school. Here are a few GIFs that accurately describe most college student's thoughts as the idea of returning to school becomes more and more of a reality with each passing day.

1. Realizing how much you have to pack...and how badly you don't want to.

Packing for college is the absolute worst because you naturally want to bring anything and everything -- but you literally can't. How am I supposed to narrow down my list of belongings to bring when my mind changes every minute?

2. Accepting the fact that you're going to have to return to showering with flip-flops.

While showering with flip-flops isn't the worst thing ever (well...), it obviously isn't the best either. After just a few days of living on campus, I realized how much I took for granted my ability to shower with my bare feet. Being home for three months and having the privilege to shower without flip-flops has been truly beautiful and knowing that this will all come to an end in less than two weeks is actually heartbreaking.

3. Dreading 8 a.m. classes, Friday classes and the absolute worst of them all -- an 8 a.m. on a Friday.

Regarding all of this, there's only one question I have to ask, "Why must bad things happen to good people?"

4. Fantasizing about how easy and fun syllabus week will be...

Every college student adores syllabus week for a few reasons... It's the first week back and on top of that, it's the easiest week of the semester. Why can't every week be syllabus week?

5. Then realizing how difficult the work load will be the rest of the year.

Before you know it you'll be buried in papers, exams and projects -- lovely.

6. Having freedom again.

As much as I love being home with my family, there are many times where my parents and I disagree over what I should and should not be able to do. Going back to college means going back to a place where only I am in charge of myself -- and I couldn't be any happier about that.

7. Reuniting with all of your best friends after a long three months of not seeing them.

The most beautiful part about college is that the friends that you make there become like family to you. You guys spend nearly all of your time together so when it's time to part ways for the summer, you feel as though a piece of you is missing. What else is greater than reuniting with the people that make college feel like home?

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
