The new year is approaching rather quickly. With this new school year comes a new class of seniors. I myself will be a high school senior. I have so many thoughts about being a senior as well as a few worries (the worries are getting into college). Therefore, today I decided to list some relatively basic worries and thoughts high school seniors have when starting their senior year; most of them are about college.

1. The first thought is, do I really have to take the ACT and SAT another time? As you know by this point in the game that ACT and SAT has already been taken multiple times. But most of the time seniors take the test one last time to see if they can get their score a little higher. These tests are long and not fun, so it's always fun having to take them again.

2. Can I balance my school and extracurriculars with college applications? One of the biggest concerns is balancing during the fall of senior year. Because you have all of your courses and college applications to do so it can be a challenging time.

3. Will my friends and I stay friends? Most of the time when you go to college, you don't go with your high school friends. When you're beginning your senior year and seeing all your friends, you begin to think about the inevitable. That is, you and your friends won't see each other everyday once you go to college. You then begin to think about if you all will remain friends and how good of friends. It is not a fun thought!

4. Will I get into college? This is probably the biggest concern. The worst part about applying is waiting to hear back from the colleges to found out if you are in or not. All seniors wonder if they will get in at all and so, where will they get in.

5. Is this really my last year of being a kid? Everyone knows when you go off to college you grow up a little (actually maybe a lot) towards your third and fourth year. It really starts to sink in when you get ready for your senior year that this is the last year of living at home as a kid. It is a weird feeling for sure.

Although applying to college can be nerve wracking, it can also be stressful and sad at times. It is also the best time because all of your hard work is finally paying off and you get to go to college and start your future. That is a great feeling and big motivation to all of this other stuff!

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
