10 Thoughts You Have During Your First Few Weeks Back On Campus

Now that we are nearing the end of August just about every college campus has started classes. This is a very strange time in a college student's life. You just spent all summer avoiding classes and now you are suddenly thrown back into them, and you definitely were not surrounded by 20,000 people every day. It can be overwhelming, exciting and incredibly fun. The first few weeks are some of the most anticipated yet stressful. Either way here is nine thoughts I know 99% of people have on their first few weeks back on campus.

1. You are more than excited to see your friends every single stinkin' day.

You're excited to go to class with them, eat with them, "study" with them and go out with them. Basically you want to make up for the four months you didn't see each other.

2. You're not really sure how you're going to wake up before noon to do something other than go to work.

Your body isn't really sure how it's supposed to handle sitting in a classroom again.

3. Iced coffee is pretty much the greatest invention ever.

You already knew this, but coming back to school was a HUGE reminder.

4. You feel kind of rich because your meal plan is fully recharged.

Be careful. Your swipes or dollars will soon disappear after all of that Starbucks and Panda Express.

5. You can't believe that just a few weeks ago you had money from working over the summer and now it's gone.

All I can say is that textbooks took my money. They took it all and they don't even care.

6. Now that you're at school you are constantly tired.

A lot of the time you aren't even doing anything. You stayed up this late every night during summer, but something about just being back at school makes you constantly tired. There's really no explanation.

7. Syllabus week makes you want to hurt somebody.

It's boring. It's stressful. It makes you want to stab somebody. It's kind of a waste of time in some cases. It's just overall not fun.

8. On the other hand you get mad if you stay for class the entire time during syllabus week.

Like seriously? We are staying the whole time? I know we haven't done absolutely anything yet, but this week is supposed to be my chill week.

9. You forgot that ant any given time you can be run over by a skateboard.

Every single day at least once I almost get run over by someone on their freaking skateboard going 10 mph through campus. I'm all for skateboards but please know how to ride them. I'm tired of almost dying everyday.

10. Your planner is now everything to you.

Without my planner I'd probably be in bed all day because I wouldn't know where I'm supposed to go or what I'm supposed to be doing. So thank the lord for that.

11. You are in a constant state of stress.

Sometimes I'm not even sure why I'm stressed. I probably don't need to be stressed all the time, but if I'm not doing something I feel like I should be doing something.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
