Coming back to college for a brand new semester after a break can be challenging. Sometimes it can feel like we haven't been back in years when, in reality, we've only been gone for a few weeks. Here is a list of ten thoughts I have while trying to navigate the start of a new semester:
1. Food, (not so) glorious food.
After a long vacation filled with home cooked meals, it is easy to forget the poor quality of dining hall food.
2. I have friends, I definitely have friends.
There is nothing like coming back to college to reunite with friends, especially after a four to six-week hiatus.
3. Weekends.
During a vacation, every day is a weekend. But in college, I find myself counting down to Friday again.
4. Boys, boys, boys.
Having been locked away in my room with Netflix for several weeks, it slips my mind that certain boys on campus are just plain beautiful.
5. Roommates reunited.
Sure I like to have a bedroom all to myself, but a dorm is not a dorm without the cool roommate I definitely missed.
6. Homework.
Regaining motivation to do homework is a Herculean labor...
7. Looking good (for about two days).
I always tell myself that this will be the semester of reinvention, which means looking good every day. Too bad that rarely lasts.
8. Homesickness.
A lot of my friends hate being home and can't wait to be back in school. Even though I do like being at college, the homesickness always hits me the hardest during my first few weeks back.
9. New gossip, old gossip.
It really does.
10. A new romance could be just around the corner (or not).
New semester, new romantic possibilities. Or not. Who knows?
