Thoughts Every College Student Has In August

It's finally August, which means that another year at college is just around the corner. These are some of the thoughts going through just about every college student's head.

1. You're scared.

Especially if you're an incoming freshman. It's your first year of college, and a lot of changes are about to take place: you're moving away from home, you're about to leave the people you've been friends with, and you're going into a totally new environment. Although it is a scary thought there are so many new people to meet and new memories to make.

2. You cannot wait.

If you're like I am, you cannot wait to get back to school. No more rules, more freedom, and most importantly, you're finally reunited with your SQUAD.

3. But what are you going to pack ...

Of course the whole summer you've had the chance to rebuild your wardrobe, and you've been slowly but surely collecting things for your new dorm room, but what should you bring? The answer is you're most likely going to shove as much as you can possibly fit in your car and hope for the best.

4. What are you going to tell everyone that you did this summer?

I mean let's be honest. Sure, you maybe had a summer job and went to the beach and went here and there a little, but you most likely spent the rest of your days lying in bed watching Netflix for hours at a time.

5. SQUAD.

If you're like me your best school friends don't live close enough to you to see them a lot during the summer. Yeah, of course you love your friends at home, but your school friends and you have a different type of friendship. Who else is going to order Domino's with you at 1 a.m. while you cry over the boy you talked to once at the party last week?

6. You can't wait to always have plans.

No matter what there is ALWAYS something going on at school. Whether it's the local bar (shoutout to G-Star), a house party or just hanging out with your friends, you can find something to do.

7. But you're worried about your new classes.

Each year gets a little harder than the last as your classes get more intense. You spent most of the summer lounging around in bed and now you have chapters of reading, essays that are pages long and quizzes and tests every week. Maybe it's time to change the Netflix password.

8. You're excited for a fresh start.

New year new you. A fresh start for you to make new friends, to rush that sorority, try out for that sports team or just a new year to focus on your work and get your grades to where you want them.

9. But you're not excited for those annoying people you can't stand.

Of course you try not to hate everyone, and you want to be open to other people's opinions but there are just some of those people in class that you want to call out on being completely ridiculous.

10. Lastly, you're excited for the new memories to be made.

When they say college days are the best days of your life, they are 100 percent right. Put yourself out there, make new friends, try something new, go out with the squad, and have fun.

Here's to another year! (SHU here I come).

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
