Thoughts While Driving In A Major City

Take a deep breath and drive ruthlessly.

Thoughts While Driving In A Major City
Houston Chronicle

If you live anywhere in or near a city, you have most likely encountered several situations on the road that you normally wouldn't encounter in your neighborhood. Odds are, you also have thought or said a few choice words during the drive. The following are just a few of the common things you may have thought while driving through a major city.

"Wow, thanks so much for using your blinker!"

Driving through a city, you have to adapt quickly to all the chaos that is surrounding you. That includes the crazy people who forget that their car does in fact include a turn signal. These turn signals can be used for various occasions, such as changing lanes and exiting those wonderfully jam-packed highways.

"Oh my God, this person is not going to let me over!"

Want to change lanes? Good luck with that! Drivers in a major city are ruthless and they refuse to even allow others into their lane. You might just have to be a little risky and switch into the desired lane at the earliest possible convenience.

"And we have completely stopped moving. Lovely."

Gotta love traffic, am I right? Oh yes, the beauty of traffic. Just in case your commute into the city wasn't already rough enough, the mass amounts of other people driving through decided to clog up the very highway that you are on. Depending on what caused the backup, you could be sitting in the same spot for what feels like an eternity. Have fun with that!

"Crap, I missed the exit..."

Did you just miss your exit? Depending on what exit and where you are in the city, chances are that you missing that exit just doubled the amount of time it will take to get to your destination. Or, you just risked getting into the traffic jam that just started right after the exit. Hooray!

"Did this guy seriously just cut me off? What the heck, dude?!"

Do you ever find yourself getting cut off during a nice drive through the city? Well, like I said before, drivers in the city are ruthless. And to bring up another point that I previously mentioned, you need to be risky in order to get over a lane. Who knows, maybe this guy that just cut you off was taking that risk in order to change lanes.

"I'm going to drive up next to this person and give them a dirty look because they did something to make me mad."

Don't deny it. At some point during our drive through the treacherous city, someone in another car has made your blood boil. So you plot the evil plan to drive up next to them and give them the dirtiest look ever. That'll show them! Just hope that person won't take it too close to heart because then you might just be getting a few dirty looks yourself. Maybe even a few dirty hand gestures.

Parks and Recreation excitedly gathered around a laptop at a table in an office setting.

The library. Club lib. The place every college student goes when they want to try and be a productive member of society. Who better to explain your experience than Parks and Rec?

Taylor Swift in orange dress playing a moss-covered piano on stage with bright lights.

A three-and-a-half-hour runtime. Nine Eras. Eleven outfit changes. Three surprise songs. Zero breaks. One unforgettable evening. In the past century, no other performer has put on an electric performance quite like Taylor Swift, surpassing her fans ‘wildest dreams’. It is the reason supporters keep coming back to her shows each year. Days later, I’m still in awe of the spectacle ‘Miss Americana’ puts on every few days in a new city. And, like one of Taylor’s exes, has me smiling as I reminisce about the memories of the night we spent together.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.
