Every once in a great while, a little holiday comes along and we are blessed to have a three (and if you're lucky, four) day weekend to lay out, stay out and sleep in. If you're like me and work that 9-5 Monday through Friday, you know how magical these weekends can be. You don't even worry about the paycut you will take on the lost day because you know you deserve a break. Your job may not be the most difficult thing in the world, rush hour may not make you grit your teeth like it does for some people, but you still need some time where you aren't a slave to your job, and exhausted by 6:30. So here's some of the excited thoughts I get when presented with the promise of a long, beautiful weekend.
1. SO MUCH TIME FOR ACTIVITIES.
What do I do with these three days off of work? It's not like the weekdays where I only have a few hours at night to squeeze any stuff I have to get done at home, get work done for meetings in the next couple of days, and all time with friends. The extra time allows me to get stuff done during the week that I wouldn't normally, squeeze in more time with family, friends, boyfriend. Maybe even get brunch. My schedule is all free!
2. I MUST go on a trip.
I don't know about you guys, but when I know I've got some time off, I am always looking to get out of town. It doesn't have to be a great long trip with a dream destination, pricey plane ticket and exotic foods. As long as I'm seeing some new scenery and trying something different, I am completely content!
3. Marking things off of the to-do list.
I keep a running list of things I have to get done once I'm off work, but I never seem to be able to get through it all, so things continuously get pushed to the weekend. The extra day off allows me to slay the game of catch-up and get everything done for this week and if I'm feeling really productive, next week too.
4. Treat yo'self.
I've been working long and hard and I deserve to try the new restaurant downtown, indulge in a milkshake on cheat day, get my nails done, whatever suits my fancy. A reward for hard work is never a bad idea!
5. What is free time?
In the end, I always seem to have a little too much time on my hands. I couldn't possibly find something to squeeze into every hour of the day. Having time to just sit back and relax is a beautiful thing but figuring out something to do to entertain myself is a lot harder than you think. I guess that's not such a bad problem to have. :)
And the final thought; Do I have to go back to work on Monday?
Taking a break feels so nice and a little vacation is always needed but in the end, I'm ready to go back, even if I'm not prepared to fall back into that schedule.
