It all started on July 21 when Meek Mill posted a tweet about Drake not tweeting his new album, followed by a second tweet accusing Drake of not writing his own rhymes.
Stop comparing drake to me too.... He don't write his own raps! That's why he ain't tweet my album because we found out! 😁
— Meek Mill (@MeekMill)
He ain't even write that verse on my album and if I woulda knew I woulda took it off my album..... I don't trick my fans! Lol
— Meek Mill (@MeekMill)
Thus began the war.
Within minutes, Twitter blew up. Fans were left to contemplate whether the accusations were true or if Meek was just salty about Drake not acknowledging his album. Three days passed before we got a response from Drake.
He released a new track titled "Charged Up" which contained some not-so-sweet shots about Meek. He rapped “I see ya’ll n***as having trouble goin’ gold/ Turning into some so and so’s that no one knows” and “No woman ever had me star struck/ Or was able to tell me to get my bars up/ I’m charged up,” in reference to Nicki Minaj, Meek Mill’s current girlfriend and queen of rap.
The only response we got from Mill was two tweets that read: "Baby lotion soft" and "I can tell he wrote that 1 tho" indicating that he was not impressed by Drake's new track.
Drake released a second track titled “Back to back,” on Wednesday morning and this one did not disappoint. He took some brutal shots at Meek including lines like “Trigger fingers turn to Twitter fingers,” and another Nicki reference with, “You love her, then you gotta give the world to her/ Is that a world tour or your girl’s tour?” After this release, fans went crazy. Memes, tweets, vines, and IG posts were posted telling Mill to basically: take a seat.
Meanwhile, the world waited for Mill's promised track... Which finally emerged on Thursday night. "Wanna know" further accused Drake of hiring a ghostwriter and brought up a situation where Drake allegedly got peed on. But the track was a clear disappointment to everyone.
Even the famous food chain, "Whataburger," got in on the dissing, Tweeting:
Meek Mill take it from us- if you gonna serve beef serve it high quality
— Whataburger® (@Whataburger)
Twitter went wild, dissing Mill while Drizzy responded in the best way possible: a simple Instagram photo of himself hysterically laughing. On August 1st, at a kickball game hosted by Drake, a camera man asked if he was confident his team would win. The 6god responded with “I haven’t taken a loss all week.”
Taking it once step further, Drake went ahead and performed "Back to Back" at the OVO Fest this weekend. He was wearing a "Free Meek Mill" t-shirt and had a montage of Meek Mill memes flashing on the screens behind him. Drake has no chill!
It’s all pretty clear that Drake won this war without much effort at all. However, Meek Mill successfully managed to get people talking about him. Even if it was just a publicity stunt, it worked.

And as fans, we all got to witness the greatest Twitter feud of the summer.
"The most important thing is you tried your best, babe. I'm proud of you either way."
— $ermon (@SermonsDomain)
So, is it all over?
The tweets and memes will eventually disappear, but what happens to the two rappers involved?
The world can only hope this battle doesn’t end as tragically as the Biggie and Tupac rap war. We’re all hoping for a more cordial ending, like that of Nas and Jay-Z, who are now friends despite their merciless battle in 2001.
But hey, it wouldn’t hurt to keep the battle going a little longer. It’s tremendously entertaining.
