This is the story about a girl, who despite everything she was put through she pulled out. This is the story about a girl who just wants to be accepted. This is the story about a girl who everyone knows and sees the smile she puts on every day, but no one sees what’s really underneath that smile.
This whole story started when this girl was young, almost too young to understand the world and why people did what they did. This girl would despise going to school because she was almost certain that some way somehow someone would manipulate her. She would go to school and try to dodge the bullies, try to stay under the radar. She tried everything for people to accept her, she tried the popular clothes, she tried the food everyone was eating, she even tried to wear makeup even though she knew nothing would help.
This girl finally got past most of the bullies and entered high school. She met her favorite teacher who would become the best mentor she had ever had. She went through the halls with her 3 musketeers, the shy basketball player who secretly was in love with her (she did not find this out till the summer of her junior year) and her noble steed who became her best friend. The three of them did everything together, movies, dances, dinners every Friday night, EVERYTHING.
It was now time for her to move onto college life. She did not want to dorm for two reasons; if she did dorm her boyfriend (the shy basketball player) would not be able to go to the same school and they would drift apart, and secondly, she did not want to live with restrictions, she wanted to do her own thing. She got an apartment with her boyfriend and loved it! The only downside was that she had to always miss events due to the fact she would pick up shifts to make ends meet. Finally, the basketball player got a job and they finally could have fun with their friends.
No one really knew what was really going on inside her mind though. Early in the first semester of college her grandmother was in the hospital for months and she was unable to visit her, which was stressful. Then, she also had a full class load from college, and working was not helping her. The amount of times she contemplated taking her own life was insane, it was almost daily. She was unable to express her feelings to any of her friends because she did not know how anyone would react. She just wanted people to hang out with her but every time she would shoot them a text, they would take days to respond. She also noticed that on everyone’s Snapchats were pictures and videos of parties that she was never invited to.
The whole reason I am telling her story is to acknowledge everything that she has been through. Also, to show that you can’t judge a book by its cover, there are so many pages to read, so many pictures to imagine. She just wanted people to recognize that most of the time she might have seemed happy, yet the demons in her mind were consuming her. The next time you see a friend or acquaintance you should try to look deeper into the situation and read between the lines.
