On Tuesday, November 8th, Americans will head to the polls and vote for the next President of the United States. For many Americans, this will be just another election, but for those who will be over the age of 18 for the first time in an election year, this will be their first election. I happen to be one of the many voters who will participate in my first presidential election. Unfortunately, for me and many other first time voters, our first election is going to be a joke.
The choices we have for president are terrible. Trump has shown us time and time again that he is not fit to run a country, let alone run his own campaign, and we don't know if we should even trust Clinton to run our country. With the email scandal and all the other controversies that have surrounded Hillary Clinton's campaign, voters have been given two choices in this election: go with the secretly corrupt candidate (Clinton) or go with the openly corrupt candidate (Trump). It feels like this election was rigged so that we would be so terrified of Donald Trump becoming president that will be forced to vote for Hillary Clinton. It's sad that many first time voters will have to participate in one of the worst presidential elections in U.S history.
The only person I felt like I could trust to run this country was Bernie Sanders. I supported Sanders, not just for his promises of free college tuition and raising the minimum wage, but I also really liked his character and how he didn't really try to pander to certain groups of people to gain voters. Bernie Sanders seemed like the cleanest candidate in the race, and yet Hillary Clinton still got the Democratic nomination for president basically because she the wife of former president, Bill Clinton. Trump managed to get the Republican nomination because he knew how to use American's fear of ISIS and losing jobs overseas to gain supporters.
This election between Trump and Clinton is like telling someone to pick their poison. No matter who we chose, we will still lose because we could've had better candidates than these two. We were always told to never settle for less than what we deserve, so why do we have to settle in this election when the American people deserve better.
