This Can't Be Real Life

For anyone who owns a television or any device that connects you to the internet, you know that the presidential election is talked about at least once an hour on the news. And the presidential candidate who is talked about the most? Donald J. Trump. But be prepared, there are times I just can't take Trump seriously and as a result make fun of him in the process. So if you came for a fun article about how great Trump is... you're in the wrong place.

So, before I get into my whole "freaking destroy Trump" purpose of why I'm writing this, let us first talk about who Trump is/what are his values. (He really doesn't have any values, but I'll make some up for you. Jk... kinda.)

Mr. Trump is a businessman (but not a good one). In his biography on Trump.com, he calls himself the "very definition of the American success story" who is "setting the standards of excellence" (okay, Mr. I'd-Date-My-Own-Daughter - calm down). Donald started his business career working with his father in Brooklyn, New York (you know, that guy that gave him a "small loan of a million dollars"). Well, I guess Donald got a little bored of Brooklyn Business, and then shifted career paths to work in Manhattan real estate. You may have heard of some of the things he's had a part in, things like: Fifth Avenue skyscraper, Trump Tower, Trump Parc, Trump Palace, Trump Plaza, 610 Park Avenue, The Trump World Tower, Trump Park Avenue, and the Trump Torture Chamber. Okay, the last one is made up, but I can only imagine I'd feel like I was in a torture chamber if I was ever forced to go to a Trump rally.

So now that you know more about Trump and all of his buildings, let's move on to his candidacy, shall we?

On June 16th, 2015, Mr. Donald J. Trump announced at the Trump Tower in New York that he was running for president, officially bringing him into the candidacy for Oval Office. Like others, I took this is a big joke. Donald is not a politics man, so why would he run? I thought the whole thing was a joke (I still do, but I'm starting to get a little scared). So, let's look at the pros and mostly cons of Trump Presidency.

He's "Really Great" With Money

...Or so they say. That's one of the biggest things Trump supporters talk about. Donald's a business man, so he must be really good with money. The man's got a net worth of 4 billion USD. So, according to CNN, why has Donald Trump's casino business filed for bankruptcy chapter 11 more than any other company in the past 30 years? In fact, Bankruptcy.com labels Trump the top filer in recent decades. Hmm... maybe he's not as good with money as we thought.

He's Racist

Some of the things Mr. Trump says honestly hurt my heart. It hurts my heart that someone can really see the world through the lens of everyone (expect people that look/think/act like themselves) being out to get them. Whether he's putting all the blame on Muslims, Mexicans, or African-Americans, Trump never comes forward when he messes up. Like most Americans, I want an honest man or woman to enter the office. I don't want someone who is going to throw blame on someone, or make a racist joke. Can you imagine if Trump is president and goes to meet with the President of Mexico? He's going to say something stupid and start a war. Don't forget Mexico isn't some helpless country, nor is any other country. They've got armies, they've got weapons, and they've got pride in their nation just like we do. You can't be the President by bullying other countries, you have to work peacefully with them.

Paul Ryan & Mitch McConnell Don't Like Him

Debatably, the two most important men in the Republican party, Paul Ryan (current Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives) and Mitch McConnell (Majority Leader of the U.S. Senate) seem to be a little angry with Mr. Trump recently. If you have access to the internet, you know recently Trump was endorsed by the former leader of the Ku Klux Klan (KKK) and did not disavow it. Well, that seemed to tick off Ryan and McConnell. While neither of them have openly stated "we don't like Trump" or something similar, they did speak out. Ryan said, "This party does not prey on people’s prejudices.” and McConnell said, “Let me make it clear: Senate Republicans condemn David Duke, the KKK and racism. That is not the view of Republicans that have been elected to the United States Senate." You probably shouldn't get on Ryan's or McConnell's bad side if you want to be the POTUS.

Let's Talk About The First Lady

Current first lady, Michelle Obama, is arguably one of the most influential first ladies we have ever had. Mrs. Obama is a Harvard Law graduate, Forbes rated her #10 most powerful woman in 2015. Michelle has fought hard for living healthy lifestyles. In 2010 she launched 'Let's Move!' which shed a lot of light on childhood obesity. In 2011, Mrs. Obama and Mrs. Biden together launched 'Joining Forces,' which is a nationwide initiative to support our servicemen and women, veterans, and their families. In 2014, Mrs. Obama launched 'Reach Higher' initiative, in an effort to inspire young people to reach for higher education. In 2015, Mrs. Obama launched 'Let Girls Learn' which is a worldwide initiative to let girls get into school and stay in school. And Mrs. Trump? Well... she's a model who designs watches. Are we prepared to trade in Michelle Obama, who is actively fighting for America for a woman who can pose for a picture and design a watch?

Trump Never Shows Any Signs of Remorse

Like any person with any decent morals, when you mess up you know you have to come clean and apologize. For example, Bill Clinton publicly apologized to America for his affair with Monica Lewinsky. George Bush apologized for the Iraq War, even going as far to say it was his "biggest mistake" and "poor judgement." Ronald Reagan apologized to Margaret Thatcher over Grenada saying "we regret very much the embarrassment that's been caused to you." Barack Obama apologized for the U.S. policy towards Americans. Ted Cruz apologized to Ben Carson when one of his staffers falsely told everyone that Carson would be dropping out the race. Bernie Sanders apologized to Hillary Clinton for his staffers "improperly accessed propriety voter lists created by Clinton's campaign." And so on... But Mr. Trump? When faced with someone throwing in his face that he did something wrong, he almost always either makes fun of that person, blames them for being on their period, or makes a joke out of it. That's not decent, that's not showing any morals, and that's not going to make America "great again."

He's A Schoolyard Bully

As I said earlier, Trump is a bully. Remember in elementary school when you would go out on the playground and there was always that one kid who would chase you around, call you names, throw stuff at you, and make fun of you? Or in middle school when there was that kid who tried to fight you? Or that girl who always somehow stole the guy you liked right when you thought he was going to date you? Or vice versa, the guy who stole your girl. Yeah, that's Donald Trump in the political world. For example of a literal argument you would hear in a middle school hallway, Trump recently made fun of Jeb and his glasses. Here is the real tweet, I wish I was making this up.

What are you, twelve? Some other examples of Donald Trump being the school bully is when he tweeted this about Carly Fiorina:

Again, this calls me to ask does Donald Trump think this is a run for the presidency of the U.S., or presidency of his 8th grade class? Just scroll through his twitter, you'll find a bunch more.

In closing, Donald Trump is the complete opposite of American morals. He's treating the candidacy like it's a reality TV series. He's playing on scare tactics, schoolyard bullying tactics, and saying the first thing that comes to mind even if it doesn't make any sense. This man is going to get us killed if he doesn't get himself killed in office. You need a president who is not only good at creating war, but good at creating and maintaining peace, the word "peace" is not in the Trump Dictionary. Choose wisely, America.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
