Having a boyfriend is nice and everything, but you’re never just dating one guy when he and his best friend’s relationship always comes first — seriously, worse than Shawn and Gus from "Psych" most of the time. It’s been a learning experience, and I am finally ready to share my knowledge. Composed with the help of my boyfriend and his best friend, these are some aspects of the Bromance that must be respected:
Bro-versation is serious and valued.
It can be either in text or in person. While texting, every message includes some variation of the word bro including, but not limited to brolympian, brotoctista, brotato, broseidon, bromigo, and bromega. Serious matters are reserved for broversation in person where there are two levels: the “not so deep” and the “deeper.” The deeper level also has four sub-levels of deepness, varying from the "bros talk about girls" level to the more serious "bro, what are we going to do with our lives?" level.
They will finish each other's sentences.
Very often. And think it’s great. Every time.
The best friend must approve of the girlfriend.
Otherwise, the relationship is not happening. When I met my boyfriend’s best friend, he explicitly told me it was the most important moment in our relationship.
Bro-guments are a rare occurrence.
Although bros get mad, it is very rare that the argument will last long. Even the most serious of discrepancies will be resolved within 24 hours.
No matter how hard you try, you won't get between a guy and his best friend. It’s frustrating, it’s ridiculous, but it’s also adorable and chances are, if he has a best friend that he cares about that much, he’ll treat you well too.
