Choice-- it can be one of the hardest things that anyone faces in life. There are a lot of big choices and decisions to be made throughout one's life. Unfortunately, making choices comes with a lot of thinking, and a lot of stressing sometimes. Most of the time, we don't always automatically know the exact answer to everything all at once and what choice will best benefit us. Therefore, we start to daydream and let our heads soar in to the clouds. By the force of human nature, we ponder all our choices, and where each choice may take us. While there is nothing wrong with dreaming big, we often make decisions on how we FEEL, instead of what's really best for us.
That's where the hard part comes in. How can we completely ignore how we feel, when our feelings are usually what guide us through every day life? How can we completely shut down all the emotions that come along with different decisions we make? Well, the answer is, you do not have to completely stop feeling anything, because that is clearly impossible; but there is one thing you can do. That thing is to picture yourself fifteen to twenty years from now. Where do you see yourself with each decision? Are the choices you are making clearly benefitting your future, or are they just your comfort zone right now?
Now, I believe very strongly in gut-feelings. When you have a feeling about something, you usually know deep in your core whether it is right or wrong. These particular feelings are very important, because you can feel whether you are in the right place or not. However, it is still very important to be future-oriented, instead of living sporadically day to day. Whether you are a planner or not, considering your future in the big decisions you make will highly benefit you. You will have a more grounded point of view on life, and start making some serious changes in your life.
Whether this may be a college choice, a change in a degree program, a change in relationships, it is crucial that you start breaking out of your comfort zone, despite how you feel. Think of YOURSELF and what is best for YOU. Travel the world, take that new internship across the country, don't study in order to make the most money—study something you truly love and have a passion for—because nothing is better in life than having no regrets. Yes, it may feel terrifying and uncomfortable at first, but once you start thinking with your head, and what is going to make the best future possible, you will no longer feel like you are in a bubble. You will start striving to be the best you can be. Think a little more, and feel a little less.
