Everyone at one point has either gone to or worked at a summer camp. Here are some sure fire signs that you are a little too familiar with camp:
1. The Dreaded Swim Test
This is a given. Nobody likes to voluntarily hop into cold water, swim back and forth, tread water and come out smelling like chlorine or seaweed. But hey, that might just be me.
2. Friendship Bracelets
I love making friendship bracelets and making them with my campers. I always ended up with more than I thought I had...
3. Card Games
You became a beast at cards while away at camp. You almost couldn't wait for your weird uncle who always played cards just so you could show off that smug smile you learned.
4. You Don't Care About how you Look
Dirt, paint, mud, etc. If it was at camp, you were covered in it at one point in the summer and you don't care one bit.
5. Theme Days
You have the most random and ridiculous clothes, but hey, there's a theme day for each of those.
6. Friendships
At the beginning of the summer, you can be kind of shy with your new camp members. At the end, you've made friendships that will last a lifetime, trust me.
7. You Cry on the Last Day
It happens to the best of us. You let all of your emotions out and just hug everyone, even if you don't like touching people.
8. Songs and Stories
There are stories that will forever stick with you. Your counselor told them to you and you told them to your campers. But, if you hear boom chicka boom one more time...
9. When You're Not Allowed to Have Favorites but Do Anyways
This one is self-explanatory.
10. Awkward Tan Lines
Nothing screams "I work at a summer camp" louder than those wicked attractive one piece swim suit tan lines, am I right?
11. Nicknames
Camp wouldn't be complete without some outrageous nicknames. Nicknames that you wouldn't be able to get away with anywhere else.
12. Your Tie Dye Skills are On Point
Nobody can argue you when it comes to you being crafty. When you need something tie dyed, you know exactly what to do.
13. The Amount of Camp Shirts You Have is Insane
Whenever you need a t-shirt, you know exactly where to go. Those old camp shirts hold a special place in your heart...and your closet.
14. Side Hugs/NCA
If you have worked at a camp or with kids at all, you are very familiar with side hugs and things that aren't camp appropriate. Kids know this too and there is always one kid who tries to push those boundaries.
15. Camp is the Best Birth Control
You may think that you can handle a dozen little eight year olds running around. LOL. Good one.
16. You Either Love the Rain (mud soccer) or Hate It (being stuck in the pavilion or cabin with lots of kids)
There are two kinds of people in the camp world; those who love the rain and those who do not. Chose wisely.
17. Over Nights
Oh the good ol over night. Because who doesn't love sleeping on an old picnic table in a sleeping bag with huge gusts of wind and unidentified animals running around?
18. You're Forced to Enjoy Nature
Bugs, bug bites, the smell of sunscreen in the morning. You know you're at camp and you have to just come to terms with your surroundings. If you stop and really take it in, you might find a beautiful view such as this one amidst all of the chaos.
19. You Feel So Accomplished When You've Learned All of Your Camper's Names
You work with a lot of people during the summer and it can be a challenge to learn all fifteen of your campers names. But when you do, that is one of the best feelings...well in the camp world anyways.
20. Your Appreciation for the Shower You Have at Home is too Strong
One of the best feelings after you get home is taking a shower with no shower shoes, no line, and nobody to bug you with unnecessary noise when you just need to fall in bed and relax after that amazing shower.
