Facebook is great for connecting with friends, family, and organizations, but besides the profile picture and cover photo, there are not many customizations to make each page different, unlike the extinct Myspace we were once all obsessed over. Here are the things we wish we could just code into our Facebook pages like we were all pros of doing on Myspace.
Page Layout
The best aspect of Myspace and also the most mind boggling decision. The options were endless. You could have celebrity, cartoon, nature, cars, television, religious, video games, and a countless number of other themed page layouts. Discovering someone with the same page layout was almost as rare as finding someone with the same fingerprints.
Comments
Remember the phrase "C4C" – comment for comment? Comments on Myspace were more than just comments. The comments section is where Myspacers held open conversations on their profiles for all of their friends to view. It was normal to find animated and clipart graphics in friend's comments sending happy birthday or get well soon wishes or just a message to say how much they are loved.
Profile Playlist
Nothing was better than visiting your own Myspace profile to hear your favorite song play automatically. Adding music to your profile made it a little more unique and a little more you.
Top 8 Friends
"The Top 8" was a determining factor on whether or not your friendship was real. What number you were ranked was critical, and the only factor in your friendship to determine what you and your friends really meant to each other. Picking your Top 8 was more difficult than just choosing between your closest friends; there were also celebrities that you could choose from. The president had a Myspace page. Even Jesus had a Myspace page!
Coding
I don't think we got enough credit for the basic coding skills that we taught ourselves at the age of only 12. We were basically forced into learning this skill in order to ensure our profile was like no one else's.
Bathroom Selfies
If you could make a bathroom selfie look good with one of those battery-operated digital cameras or with a flip phone, then you righteously earned the title "Selfie Queen/King," because that only happened every other blue moon.
"Thnx 4 the Add"
"Thanx 4 the Add" was only acceptable on Myspace. We enjoyed knowing that people were grateful for having the choice to view our illustrious profile; however, when someone inboxes you seconds after accepting their friend request on Facebook, you are almost tempted to undo it.
