“Is that your natural hair?”

When you have curly hair, this is honestly one of the first question people ask you when they meet you. It is probably one the most frequent questions you'll get asked throughout your life as well. I’ve been asked three different times this week if my natural hair is really this curly. The answer is, "Yes, it is and it is nearly impossible to manage."

Have you ever had someone look at you and say, “Wow, I wish I had your hair! It’s so pretty!”

When people say this to you, your first thought is probably how you cried brushing your hair this morning because the brush got stuck 32 different times. You cringe at the thought of someone else wanting to deal with a frizzy mess similar to yours simply because your hair doesn’t look half bad today.

Things get stuck in your hair on a daily basis. And you relate to the song “Can’t Be Tamed” on a personal level because you feel like it was written based on your relationship with your hair. These are things that you find to be true if your hair is curly.

Those of you that don’t have curly hair probably are thinking it's just hair; it can’t possibly be that big of a struggle. Let me tell you, it is really difficult.

It's the hardest thing you'll ever have to tame in your life. And for those of you that don't have curly hair, yes, tame is the right word to describe mastering the frizzy mess we call hair.

Curly haired girls, hopefully these struggles will make people appreciate your hair and much of a daily struggle it can be.

1. Having curly hair is literally like a vortex. You can wash it three times before that missing bobby pin turns up. It basically has a mind of its own.

2. Leave in conditioner is your BFF.

3. Humidity? Not your friend. Ever.

4. Praying for rain when your hair is in its natural state just so it de-frizzes and flattens it out.

5. Straightening your hair? That's a no-go unless you have an hour to spare.

6. Your hair can only be brushed while your hair is wet or straightened.

7. If you do brush your hair in its normal state, it becomes your worst nightmare. Your hair ends up looking like a lion’s mane.

8. Good hair days means pictures, hair flips and attempting not to wash your hair so it stays this way forever (and being very dramatic about the fact that your hair looks good for a change).

9. Ponytails are not usually your friend because your hair puffs out on either side of your head. (Sometimes you even look like a poodle.)

10. Blow dryers are your worst nightmare.

11. Mousse in your hair on cold days means your hair will be frozen all morning.

12. Hair in the drain and on the walls of the shower is incredibly common with your hair. There's just so much hair that it gets everywhere.

13. When you're miraculously having a good hair day, people are not allowed to touch your hair.

I know this makes it seem like curly hair is impossible, and believe me good hair days are few and far between, but I wouldn’t trade my crazy curls for anyone’s normal hair.

From one curly haired girl to another, props for mastering how to deal with the madness we call hair.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
