8 Things To Do When Snowed In Based On Your Mood

Growing up, snow days meant an opportunity to miss school, and to have the most intense snowball fights with your neighborhood friends, but not much else. Now, as college students, we are left with a plethora of opportunities, making it slightly difficult to choose the right way to spend your day. Here are some ways to enjoy your snow day indoors, depending on your mood.

Lonely:  Enjoy time with loved ones.

If you happen to be at home during a monstrous storm, turn this time into a fun family bonding experience like a family game night! However, if you are stuck on campus, take this time to have a fun night indoors with your friends. Or pull up a virtual fireplace on your computer screen and enjoy a nice evening snowed in with your significant other. If you are unable to physically meet up with your loved one of choice, you can set up a time to call or video chat with each other.

Focused: Use this as a work day.

The blanket of snow outdoors provides serenity for many which means a snow day can serve as a perfect opportunity to grind and get ahead of (or even catch up on) all of your work.

Creative: Bake some goodies.

Take this time to try making those triple chocolate brownies that you promised yourself you were going to make at the last family event. Nothing better than some baked goodies to turn the bitter cold into something sweet!

Lost/Worried: Pray

If you have been entirely anxious and worried, use this time to re-center yourself by praying or looking to your higher power. This will hopefully leave you feeling a bit relieved.

Productive: Do a DIY.

If you want to do something productive, but are not particularly in the mood to do schoolwork, pull up that old DIY Pinterest board and get to creating!

Lazy: Have a movie marathon.

Feel like lounging around? Stay indoors and binge your favorite movie series. If you are a sci-fi/action kind of mood here are some movie series ideas: The Lord of the Rings, Star Wars, The Harry Potter Series, X-men, The Fast and The Furious, Shrek (debatable, yet arguably educational), Marvel and DC Films, and lastly The Fast and The Furious. Although there are many other options, these are just a few personal favorites.

Frantic: Utilize this time as a self care day.

Use today to sleep in, or wake up early, whichever you have been yearning to do but could not due to your daily schedule. You can also treat your self to an at-home spa day with a manicure, or homemade face mask— pamper yourself while you have time!

Adventurous: Order in.

Not in the mood to trek to dining hall to receive whatever peculiar meal awaits you? Grab some friends and research your local takeout restaurants. If you are feeling adventurous, try a new food type or even simply a new order, you may be pleasantly surprised.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
