Now that the semester is over, it's time to put the books away and live your life. Winter break is what I look forward to all year; not only because I'm home for the holidays, but of the fun times I always have when I'm back at home. As someone that can't go home very often, I always make the most of the time I spend there. Being away all semester, it's nice not only to reunite with your friends and family, but enjoy the holiday spirit. No matter where you are spending your winter break, here are some ideas of what you can do while you are home for the holidays.
1. Spend time outside.
You don't have a reason to be hiding in the library anymore, so spend time outside whether you are in a cold or hot climate. Go sledding down the hill or water tubing with your friends. Build a snowman or sandcastle. Take a walk around town and look at the Christmas lights. Go for a hike or build a snow fort and have a snowball fight. When it comes to having fun, it's okay to not be an adult for a little bit.
2. Watch a movie (or 12).
My favorite thing to do when it's cold outside is to watch movies. The holidays are perfect for movie marathons. Invite the family and/or your pets to watch a holiday movie with you while you unwind from the day. After all, you don't have any deadlines or exams to worry about, so get comfortable and enjoy escaping into a world on the screen.
3. Go on an adventure.
Go for a drive without a destination or visit somewhere that you have wanted to visit for awhile. Bring your friends and/or family too. The more people that are in the car, the better. It's a great time to not only go somewhere new, but to make new memories with people you care about. You may not only find a new place to visit next time, but a memory that you all have a part of.
4. Treat yourself.
This is the time of year when neighbors, friends and family get together to celebrate the holidays. With a variety of meals, dishes and recipes, you can stop living on that college diet- at least for a couple of weeks. What's better than eating home cooked food? Nothing. It's better than Ramen, that's for sure.
