11 Things To Do In New York City

The most important thing is to have fun. Spending a day in the city guarantees that you will do just that. There are so many opportunities to explore and see something new in a city so big. There can and will never be a dull moment when you take a trip to New York.

1. Central Park

Central Park, located in the heart of Manhattan, stretches from 59th St. to N 110th St. and 5th Ave. to 8th Ave. It is the perfect spot for a day filled with fun activities! You can rent bikes and take a ride around the park, walk around, or even have a nice little romantic horse-carriage ride. You can spread out a blanket for the perfect picnic or get your summer tan on the lawn. All around are little ice cream and food carts for a quick little snack and cooling down and cafes/ restaurants to calm the hungry stomachs. There are different fields and cages for sports such as Baseball, Kickball, Frisbee, and many other fun games! You can even go to the mini carnivals that can be found depending on what day you go. Central Park is the perfect spot for families, friends, and couples to relax and enjoy a gorgeous summer day!

2. Bryant Park

In midtown Manhattan between the streets of 40th - 42nd and and the avenues of 5th- 6th is another beautiful urban park, Bryant Park. Filled with engaging activities, there is always something enjoyable that can be found in Bryant Park, whether it may be Yoga or Tai Chi classes or different acts and shows. The perfect way to spend a night in Bryant Park would be to spread out on the lawn, get super cozy, and enjoy a peacefully wonderful night under the stars watching a movie.

3. Broadway

Did someone say $10 Broadway tickets?!? Yes! It's true!! As we all know, Broadway tickets can tend to get very expensive, especially if you love watching musical and theater acts. Well, lucky for us, Broadway has General Rush ($25-$40), In-Person Broadway Ticket Lottery ($25-$40), and Online Ticket Lottery ($10-$40). These discounted Rush and Lottery tickets are available 24/7. For the General Rush, you have to buy the tickets in-person (first come, first serve) so make sure you get there early to get your super cheap tickets!

4. Kayaking

Kayaking in the Hudson is the perfect way to cool off in the intense summer heat. There are many kayaking companies throughout the city that offer relatively cheap deals. Last time I went, my friends & I got tickets for $25 each via Groupon for the Manhattan Kayak Company located on Pier 84 near 12th Ave and W 44th St. After enjoying a fun time out on in the waters, you can satisfy your growling stomach with a delicious meal found at the many restaurants near the Pier.

5. Times Square

Times Square ~ one of the most known and famous touristy locations. Take pictures with your favorite characters, explore M&M World, ride the Ferris Wheel in Toys R Us, play some games and enjoy a few drinks at Dave and Busters, enter Ripley's Believe it or Not (at your own discretion), eat at the many restaurants, and have a wonderful time! Although it can get a bit pricey at times, Times Square is filled with fun and exciting moments!

6. Chinatown

Chinatown is home to the largest group of Chinese people in the city. While in Manhattan, why not roam around and get some cultural perspective? You can eat at the various restaurants, shop around at the markets, meet new people, and learn more than you ever imagined. If you're planning on spending a day filled with gaining new insights and perspectives on different cultures, check out Little Italy, too!

7. High Line

The High Line is a gorgeous, elevated 1.45 mile park with many entrances and exits. Get an eye-catching view of the city below as you take delight in the views below. Along the High Line, there are ice cream carts for cooling down as well as little musical acts and art displays for entertainment. Let's not forget the awesome Lego site, "The Collectivity Project," where the public can build whatever they may for everyone to see!

8. Chelsea Market

After a walk on the High Line, enjoy yourself in Chelsea, a west-side neighborhood in the city. Take a trip to Chelsea Market, home to many shopping malls, restaurants, and production facilities! If you get a chance, dine at Morimoto, a Japanese restaurant located at 88 10th Ave. (Word has it that many famous people eat here, so maybe you'll get lucky and meet your favorite celebrity!)

9. Nightclubs

Tired of spending a hard day working? Exhausted from stress caused by coworkers or family? Take a night out with your friends and dance your worries away at the many nightclubs in the city! Spend a night of drunken reveling, meet some cute significant others, and have no worries. It's your night out; after all, you do deserve it!

10. Sightseeing/ Tours

One of the best ways to get around the city if you're only here for a couple of days is to go on a tour bus and explore what the city has to offer! This is an easy way to explore New York without having to walk too much, and while you are at it, you'll learn some history about this beautiful city and what makes it so amazing.

11. FREE! FREE! FREE!!!!

There are so many more things to do in the city than the 10 listed above! Explore! Look around! Look online!! There are museums, art galleries, concerts, and so much more that you can go to for free! There are certain places that offer free admission on specific days; just check online and plan ahead! Throughout the summer and fall, there are free concerts (from Sia, Keith Urban, and many more) in the mornings and evenings. If you have a favorite singer that you are just dying to see, check online to see when she or he is performing OR just type in "free concerts nyc" to see who is performing when!! It doesn't get much easier than that!!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
