The list could just keep going!

Go Illini!
Amanda Brennan

The University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign has so much to offer in and out of the classroom. Before you leave campus, make sure you check all these things off of your college bucket list!

1. Develop a warped sense of time in the UGL

UGL Studying

Amanda Brennan

You ever walk in and it's as bright as day...but when you leave it's pitch blackā€¦?

2. Concert at the State Farm Center

Dan and Shay at the SFC

Amanda Brennan

SFC gets some pretty big names and the concerts are filled with a bunch of college kids! What could be better than that!

3. Explore the Stacks!

Did you know there are 10 floors in the Main Library dedicated to old books? There are "half floors" and moving shelves to explore!

4. Question if the Morrow Plot rumors are true

Walk down Gregory, stare down the random cornfield, and wonder if people really get expelled for walking over the sacred corn surrounded by an invisible fence

5. Find the tunnelsĀ

Is there one that connected the Music Building to the Krannert Center? Is there one that connects Huff to the Armory? Only one way to find out! Find them!

6. Go to a Krannert performance

Krannert holds so many diverse performances throughout the year. You can't graduate U of I without seeing a performance. Or, at least sit in the lobby, do homework and listen to the groups rehearsing.

7. Try ALL of the restaurants on Green!

You've got the basics like Panera, Noodles, Chipotle and Panda. But, don't forget about Mia Za's, Legends, Bangkok Thai and Zorbas! Check each restaurant off your list.

8. Learn what steam tunnels are

I was confused too. You know those giant blocks that blast heat at you on random intersections? Those are steam tunnels. Rumor is they used to connect the whole campus. #TheMoreYouKnow

9. Go to a movie night at the Union

Old Fashioned MoviesGiphy

Underrated but so fun! They show the classics, some throwbacks, Disney, and sometimes ones so new they were in the theaters only a week before!

10. Get lost in creepy Urbana

Once you're east of Lincoln Ave, welcome to residential Urbana. Usually, it's completely safe and you're walking around houses filled with college kids. But, if you go one block in the wrong direction, it can get a bit spooky on the bumpy brick roads.

11. Please learn the busses

Bus GifGiphy

Yeah, yeah this one is kinda for me. Where I have lived the last two years, my classes have been across the street. No kidding, I can see the journalism building out my window. I rarely take the busses but got better at them last year and it was pretty great.

12. Go to a sporting event

Illini Basketball

Amanda Brennan

I love sports and with Illinois improving, you can't go to Illinois without going to a football or basketball game. Our football team is pretty hit or miss, but we finally went to a bowl game last year...and we can keep improving...right? And our basketball team has gotten SO. GOOD. Here's to hoping Kofi and Ayo pull out of the NBA draft so we can have them at least one more season.

13. Put your name on a random RSO list on Quad Day

Did you even go to Quad Day if you didn't put your name and email on a list just for some free stuff?

14. Sprawl out your study stuff in the Union basement

Okay, only do this if it is not too crowded and no one is looking for a table to study at.

15. Climb Alma for a picture

C'mon...it's "tradition"

16. Walk from First to Lincoln

From one end to campus to another! Get your steps in!!

17. Wait in the world's longest line at the bookstore

Long LineGiphy

They should really make a "FastPass" line like Disney World

18. Might as well add "wait in line at Starbucks"

Amanda Brennan

Whether you go to the one in the bookstore or the Union, might as well wait the 30-40 minutes

19. Pull an all-nighter

CoffeeGiphy

Okay I don't recommend this and if you time manage this shouldn't happen, but sometimes it happens and it's just part of college

20. Experience a dorm fire alarm

Amanda Brennan

Going off of that "all-nighter" idea. I technically have never done a true "all-nighter" but I have had my fair share of nights with only 2-3 hours of sleep. One of those being the same time a fire alarm went off. Nothing better than going to bed at 4am, and having the fire alarm go off at 7am

21. Have an exam in the most random building

Someone tell me why I had a Spanish midterm in a chemistry lab

22. Closeout Kams

Kams

Amanda Brennan

The better music doesn't start till midnight anyway, might as well stay and close. it. out.

Here's to the best four years!

Happy timesAmanda Brennan

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Whether you met your new love interest online, through mutual friends, or another way entirely, you'll definitely want to know what you're getting into. Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
