My mind as a child was a creative and bizarre one, and it’s funny to think about all the crazy ideas I came up with as a kid. Here’s just a few of them:
Rain happened when the clouds were sad
I used to think that because it wasn’t sunny and happy when it rained, the rain were tears from the clouds. I can even remember talking to the clouds to try and make them feel better.
My toys would talk and move around when I wasn’t there
One of my favorite books growing up was The Doll People by Ann M. Martin. In this book, this girl owns a doll house where all the dolls come to life and interact with each other when she isn’t there. Along with that and Toy Story, I was highly convinced that my dolls acted in the same way.
Adults were mind-readers
I thought adults were these super human people who could read our minds and were never wrong. I thought that after I turned 18 I would have these same powers. Obviously, I was wrong but that would be so cool.
Teachers lived in their classrooms
I think there’s probably a lot of kids who still think this, but I used to think that teachers didn’t have houses or lives outside of school. I thought they just slept and lived in their classrooms.
The moon and the sun were enemies
Because the moon and the sun come up at different times, I thought this was because they were trying to stay away from each other because they didn’t like each other. I also thought the moon was a vampire for awhile because it ‘avoided’ daylight.
If you accidentally swallow apple seeds, an apple tree will grow inside of you
Eating an apple was probably one of the most terrifying experiences for me as a kid. I don’t know why, but I thought an apple tree would grow inside me if I swallowed its seeds. After I accidentally swallowed one and didn’t become an apple tree, I eventually stopped thinking this.
Braids in your hair meant you were a princess
