Everyone has that exciting moment where they are first going to be touring the college that they will be spending the next four years at. Some people tour the college excited to start, some people tour the college nervous to start, and some have no emotions towards it. As they are giving these campus tours there are multiple things they leave out.

1) It's More Than a School

The tour guides forget to tell you that this place will be more than a school to you, it'll be your second home. The grounds you are walking on now, will be the grounds you will walk every day. You will share your good days, your bad days and your nervous days all walking on these grounds.

2) You'll Feel Like You Belong

The tour guide forgets to tell you that the people and faces you see will become so important to you over the next four years. The lady that greets you at the info desk, the lady who scoops your mashed potatoes onto a plate, and all the way up to the woman who is in academic advising guiding your future, will be important to you. These will be people that will make you smile when you may not want to and people that will make you feel like you belong.

3) You're All In it Together

The tour guide forgets to tell you that the incoming freshman that are along side with you, will become family. Personally, I never believed in this concept, until I was there. The faces you interact with every day, the quiet girl on your floor and the loud boy on your floor, will all be people you miss when you graduate.

4) Get Ready for Lifetime Friendship

The tour guide forgets to tell you that the friendships you make here are indescribable. These are the people you grow with, the people you change with, the people you are motivated by daily. They are your home.

5) They'll Take Care of You

The tour guide forgets to tell you the fact that although you will take yourself to the doctor on campus for the first time at school, and you may be scared, it will feel no different than the doctor at home. She will "mother" you in the way you need to be mothered and always aid you back to good health.

6) You'll Make Amazing Memories

The Tour guide forgets to tell you that when you are graduated, you will appreciate all those random things about your school that you took for granted. The girls sitting on the grass reading, the boys throwing the football around, the lady at the pizza place saying you look stressed. All these things will become a memory, and that is sad.

7) You'll Miss the Little Things

The tour guide forgets to tell you that you may complain about this place often. You may say, "it's ugly here" or crack jokes on the school. But one day, you will miss it. One day, you will drive away for the last time and you will never return to that school as a student. Life will be better but it will never be as simple as it was the days you were a college student at your home.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
