This presidential race is arguably the most talked about election that U.S. politics has ever seen. As someone who is old enough to vote, I have vowed to try my best to be informed about who I am (or am not) voting for. That means watching debates, reading articles, and visiting websites of candidates regardless if my beliefs align with theirs or not. Because of this mindset, I took it upon myself to watch the GOP (or Grand Ole Party) debate in which Republican candidates argued for their causes and tried to win over the hearts of voters. This is the first debate for this election that I have watched, and I learned a hell of a lot more than I originally thought I would...
1. Nobody knows how to directly answer a question. If I had a nickel for every time a mediator had to ask their question again because a candidate failed to answer it... I would have a lot of nickels.
2. The faces Donald Trump makes are as funny live as they are in memes. I thought people were just catching him at the right moments, but his face really looks like this. All. The. Time.
3. Everybody is the victim. If they're not complaining about getting enough speaking time they're complaining about getting too much speaking time. Like, seriously?
4. It's quite easy to see what each candidate's agenda is. No matter what the question is, every single candidate somehow turned it around to speak more about their platform. But I guess that's the point isn't it?
5. Politics is more like a comedy show (or boxing match) than I thought. It gets so much more heated than I could have ever imagined. I was just waiting for Jeb Bush to punch Donald Trump in the face... Too bad it never happened (that would have made a great meme).
6. Now I understand why the entire world hates us so much. Some of the things that were coming out of the mouths of candidates really surprised me. The blatant disrespect for each other and frankly everyone else who doesn't worship them was out of this world.
7. Being a woman presidential candidate is not an easy task. Although I am all for a woman president, I pity whoever gets that incredible honor. Stereotypes are everywhere and it's going to be hard to get past those. But...
8. I never want to be the president of the United States. It's way too much work. Kudos to all 44 POTUSes that we have had. Having everyone hating and loving you at the same time is way too much for ya girl.
9. I also never want to be a moderator for any GOP debate ever. Candidates never feel like 30 seconds is enough time to get their point across. And don't let another candidate "mention" them. Apparently that's grounds for talking for another 15 minutes.
10. What political party you are in defines you. This to me is really sad. People spend too much time determining what political party they are in and then spend the rest of their lives hating those who don't agree with them.
11. Attacking your opponent is the best way to make yourself look better. Instead of saying what we have done and what we could do to benefit this country, let's just talk about how Ben Carson's tie didn't match his suit.
12. We should all be more concerned about the future of politics in this country. In the times that we are living, it is imperative that we pay attention to the people we are voting for. Don't let the media sway you to one candidate or another. Don't even let your parents. Survey all candidates with an open mind regardless of if they are a member of your party or not. The next president of the United States could honestly make or break the future of this country.
