7 Things That Only Happen When You're Back Home

No matter how hard you try to escape your old classmates, you cannot evade all of them.

For students attending college far away from their hometowns, going back home is a once or twice a year rarity. For others, it may be as often as once a week. Whether going home is a rarity or common occurrence, these same things always happen to every student.

1. You run into someone you know everywhere you go

Seriously. Everywhere. From the supermarket to the library to your favorite brunch place, at least one of your former classmates will somehow show up at any given moment. The most awkward run-ins involve acquaintances you sort-of did but also sort-of didn't talk to back in high school, and the only way you still remember what the other looks like is through occasional social media stalking.

2. You lose track of time

Without the need to stick to a Monday-Friday class schedule, your days become blurred and you can no longer tell the day of the week based on the classes you have. Is today Sunday? Or Wednesday? Don't know, doesn't matter.

3. You're well fed for every meal

Gone are the days where you had to worry about cooking 2-3 times a day and struggle to put variety in your meals. At home, the most you have to do is help out with whatever grand meal you're going to eat. Low effort, good food. No more trying to split that Chipotle bowl into three meals or telling yourself that having pasta a whole week straight is a viable way to live.

4. You make 17 grand plans to meet up with old friends, but only 2 end up actually happening

You miss your friends, and they miss you. Problem is, no one is ever home at the same time anymore, and even if they are, no one is ever off work at the same time. Even if they are, those "maybe"s on Facebook events never seem to show up. Good luck trying to bring more than 5 people together at once without having to plan months in advance.

5. You drive around town and complain about how much has changed

That neighborhood definitely was not there when you left two years ago. That hill definitely had more trees and greener leaves before you left. Your middle school didn't have such a nice track field when you attended there. Just about everything had changed, and you're not liking it at all.

6. You get annoyed every day and count down to the day you can leave again

Whether it's having to do bizarre chores at home at times you don't want to or hearing endless noise from screaming kids in the library, everything seems to annoy you after a while. You start to miss the quiet library options in college and doing your laundry once every month instead of being told what to do.

7. You realize you never want to leave

As annoying as home can be when you're there, there's always a feeling of never wanting to leave when you have to. You'll miss the familiarity, the people, and the memories you made in this place every time you leave. As soon as you leave, it's a countdown to the next time you can come back.

an image of taylor swift standing center stage surrounded by her backup dancers in elegant peacock esque outfits with a backdrop of clouds and a box rising above the stage the image captures the vibrant aesthetics and energy of her performance during the lover era of her eras tour

A three-and-a-half-hour runtime. Nine Eras. Eleven outfit changes. Three surprise songs. Zero breaks. One unforgettable evening. In the past century, no other performer has put on an electric performance quite like Taylor Swift, surpassing her fans ‘wildest dreams’. It is the reason supporters keep coming back to her shows each year. Days later, I’m still in awe of the spectacle ‘Miss Americana’ puts on every few days in a new city. And, like one of Taylor’s exes, has me smiling as I reminisce about the memories of the night we spent together.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
