7 Things Only Palm Coast People Understand

1. The intersection at Old Kings Road and Palm Coast Parkway

The worst intersection in Palm Coast is the intersection at Old Kings Road and Palm Coast Parkway. If you're bad with streets, I'm talking about the one near McDonalds, CVS, Cracker Barrel and ABC Liquors. This intersection sucks because if you just barely miss the green light, you're going to be stuck there forever. The lights also turn quickly, so it's important that you're paying attention at the light. Luckily, they took out the camera at the intersection!

2. The rivalry between Matanzas and Flagler Palm Coast

The first football game of the season is the most intense one. Each year, the football game is either held at Matanzas or FPC, it switches every year. The turn out of the football game is insane! The student section has people either covered in green (for FPC) or blue (for Matanzas). While there may not be any other kind of noticeable school rivalry during the year, the rivalry is very visible at the game. (And there's nothing wrong with intense school spirit!)

3. The convenience of the beach

Luckily, we live about 10 minutes from the beach. No matter where you live in Palm Coast, the beach is not far. When you go to the beach, there are so many pizza places you can try and then after that, you can grab ice cream! The location of the beach is also very beneficial to all the surfers and fisherman of Palm Coast. While Flagler Beach may not be in the best shape right now, due to Hurricane Matthew, soon enough she'll be good as new and still a great place to make memories in.

4. The constant complainers

If you live in Palm Coast, you know all about the constant complainers. Everyone on social media is almost always complaining that there's "nothing to do" or that Palm Coast is "boring." However, there are tons of things to do in Palm Coast like go shopping, go to the movies or even go to the beach. Don't blame Palm Coast for the lack of your adventure.

5. Publix in every corner

In Palm Coast, there seems to be a Publix in every corner. There's a Publix across from Kohls (Belle Terre Crossings), one by Starbucks (Palm Coast Island Walk), one by the Hammock, one by the Town Center and even one by Flagler Beach. However, Publix is a wonderful company and is well-known for their iced tea, chocolate-chip cookies and "Pub Subs."

6. Neighborhood Sections

In Palm Coast, the neighborhood is organized in sections. There is the B section, Z Section, E Section, C Section and the list goes on. While the sections aren't alphabetically organized in any way, everyone in Palm Coast knows what you're talking about when you say, "I live in the L section." Still don't understand what I'm talking about? Then you must not be from Palm Coast.

7. Making the news is a big deal

Whenever Palm Coast makes the news, it's a big deal. We don't make the news often, but when we do, it's usually about something ridiculous. Once, there was an alligator using the crosswalk. Another time, a woman accidently drove her car into the Publix on Belle Terre. Crazy stuff happens in Palm Coast, too.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
