Things I Miss Most Since I Left Home
Ashley Strube

Remember how most of us were so excited to move away to college and start a new life? I was ready to break out into the world and "do" college. I never thought I would miss much, let alone the little things that never even crossed my mind. Looking back on my last two years at University, there are some odd things that I really miss since moving from home.

Two-Ply Toilet Paper

I never thought that toilet paper had such a huge role in my life until I lived in a dorm. All the paper was one scratchy, mesely layer thick. After I moved into my apartment, and now house, splurging on good toilet paper was a must!

Home-Cooked Meals

I was spoiled as a kid, and my family always had home-cooked meals for supper. My mom even made breakfast on the weekends! I miss this the most! I do not have a wide range of cooking skills, nor do I take the time to try. I am always on-the-go, and hardly have time to make a good meal. Plus, cooking for one is much harder in my opinion. You end up eating that meal for the next four days, unless you take the time to half the recipe. A fancy meal to me is making spaghetti with garlic bread once a week!

Alone Time

I love hanging out with people, but I also love being alone. In college, you are never alone. To afford living in dorms, apartments, and houses, you have roommates. You walk, or drive to class with the hundreds of other people you go to school with. You study and go to the library with people. You sit in class with people. You eat with, or around people. You work with more people. By the end of the day, when you get home to relax, you find yourself with people. Finding alone time is golden, but doesn't happen too often. What I love about living in a house now is I have my own room. Although I have roommates, I can always go to my room and relax by myself.

Less Responsibility

I miss not having to pay bills, and having food set out for me to eat. I do not like having to spend money on necessessities like light bulbs, toilet paper, napkins, cleaning supples, brooms, weed killer, etc. I guess I never realized how crazy being an adult was until I had to start doing it! Much respect goes out to the people who do this everyday!

Help

You know that time you got really sick and thought you were dying? You couldn't move or do anything for a week? In that moment, along with others, I wish my family was there to take care of me. To bring me crackers and Sprite, and an ice pack. Just having a loving presence to check on you every once in a while. Although friends are always there to help and take you to the walk-in clinic, there is nothing like being home when you are sick.

A Full Fridge

I miss always having food in the house! It always somehow magically filled itself after a few weeks! Now, its scavenging around for anything to make. You are throwing random things together and thinking, "Yea, that looks like it could taste good", because you do not have time to go to the grocery store yet. This is a reoccuring theme in my life.

Nonetheless, I do not live very far from my hometown, and I do visit often! I also am fortunate to have an amazing family that is always there to support me and help me out if I need it. From my college experience so far, these are some of the things I miss most. Well, I cannot be the only one. What do you miss since you went off into the real world?

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
