Before I left for college I was grateful for many things. But, ever since I moved away and actually lived on my own I am even more grateful for those things. I never realized how different my life would be without my biggest supporters standing behind me.

1. My family.

You guys are my number ones no matter what. Y’all are the reason I get to go to college and be successful! I’m thankful for all of you every single day. My life wouldn’t be the same without your support and comfort!

Knowing I can come home to the people who love me most, makes me look forward to coming home! The holidays, and even just random weekends, with you guys are my favorite. Sure, I love the college life, but I also love the sweet feeling of spending time with my family.

2. My boyfriend.

You get some appreciation not only because you’re my boyfriend but also because you’re one of the main reasons I have a smile on my face day in and day out. You’ve helped me study, calmed me down when I’ve been stressed, and you get to live the fun college years with me! Experiencing college with you makes it that much more fun! Getting to have you at home and at college is almost like a 2 for 1 special! Thanks for sticking with me no matter where life takes us.

3. My hometown best friends.

Our times together are priceless and so memorable to me. No matter the time apart, we always know how to pick right back up from where we left off. Each of you is so special to me and my heart is happy knowing I have wonderful people to share my life with. I miss y'all all the time but I can't wait to see my main girls!

Growing up with awesome friends has really shaped who I am today! Thank you for everything! This distance of going to separate colleges has nothing on us! I love you guys and I’m always a phone call away!

4. My roommate.

Yes, you also fall into the best friends category, but you’re more than that! You’re the person I get to see every day! You know how to handle me at my worst and my best. Living a room away is something I’m beyond grateful for. I would never be able to get through college without you. I cherish all of our times together and just know you will always have a forever friend in me. You're more like a sister and I can't wait to spend the rest of our college years together!

5. My college best friends.

First of all, thank y'all for making my first college experience amazing! I came here nervous and uncertain about how making friends would be. As soon as I started getting close to you all I knew I would love college. I'm here for each and every one of you whenever you need it. We're going to get through the long cramming sessions, and experience the fun weekends of going out together! We're young, fun, and living this life together!

6. My dog.

I miss you more than anything.. having to leave you behind while I went to college was the hardest thing. I know you're in good hands with mom and dad but I can't help wishing you were here with me. Coming home to those kisses and snuggles makes it worth the wait though! You’ll always be my best furry friend! I love you!

7. My hometown.

I never thought I’d say this but growing up in the place I did was the best thing that ever happened to me. I use to say “I’m so ready to get out of this town” but truth is, it was such a great place to grow up! I learned life lessons, appreciation for the little things, respect of others, made relationships that will last a lifetime, and got to live a happy childhood all the way through my teenage years. My hometown will always have a huge piece of my heart!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
