Before entering my first year of college, I read every article and list on what to bring your first year of college. I was so nervous I was going to forget something, if I was packing too much, what other kids were going to bring and so many more emotions. I learned that there are a few things you cannot forget, but other things you can live without. I wrote this ultimate guide to everything you need your freshman year of college, hope it helps!
1. One set of twin XL sheets (You only need one set, just wash them on laundry day and put them back on your bed.)
2. Comforter
3. Blankets (You never know how cold your room is going to be, especially in the winter.)
4. Body pillows (Target has great cheap ones, and they have super cute covers to put over them.)
5. Mattress cover
6. Towels, washcloths, towel wrap and hair towel wrap
7. Long mirror
8. Desk lamp
9. Jewelry hanger
10. Rug
11. A good vacuum (We made the mistake of buying cheap vacuums, and it broke twice.)
12. Command strips
13. Shoe organizer for over your closet door
14. Plastic drawers
15. Clorox wipes
16. Paper towels
17. Febreze
18. Trash can and trash bags
19. Laundry detergent (For those who have never done laundry, get the pods!)
20. Laundry basket (Get one that is easy to carry, usually laundry room is in the basement.)
21. First Aid kit (bandaids, Advil, cough syrup, eye drops, Q-tips, anything you can think of.)
22, Leggings
23. T shirts
24. Lots of underwear (You won't do laundry as much as you think.)
25. Going out tops (Forever21.com)
26. Semiformal/formal dresses (especially if you are planning on rushing)
27. Shoes (tennis shoes, white converse, flip flops, riding boots, wedges, one pair of nude or black heels)
28. Rain coat (I bought my monogram raincoat on Marleylily.com.)
29. Vests
29. Jeans (regular, black, colored)
30. Backpack
31. Weekend duffle bag (You will go on long weekend trips.)
32. Big purse (You won't always be carrying around your book bag)
33. Planner (Lily Pulitzer and Kate Spade are my favorite.)
34. Laptop and laptop case
35. Pens, pencils, markers, Sharpies!
36. Chargers (and bring extras)
37. Portable phone charger
38. Portable fan
39. Keruig coffee maker
40. Brita water filter
41. Snacks (Easy mac, Pop Tarts, frozen dinners, Gold Fish, fruit snacks)
This was everything I used my freshman year of college. I definitely over-packed, and my dorm room was always a mess. Think of what you will actually use, not just want. I know you want to bring every shoe and purse you own, but you will not have room. Think and plan carefully, and happy packing!
