Things To Do In Fall

Things To Do In Fall

1. Game day. What’s better than OU football and tailgating? Probably, not much.

2. Pumpkin carving. Mostly for the cool Instagram and also the pie.

3. Apple orchards. They really do exist in Oklahoma! Makes for a great date and pie, again.

4. Talimena scenic drive. You don’t need to go the northeast to see breathtaking fall foliage. We have it locally and beautifully.

5. Run the Route 66 half or full marathon. Because I am doing it and also because who doesn’t want to see the beautiful city of Tulsa on a cool fall morning?

6. Go hiking in the Wichitas. Crisp air and mountains are the perfect fall combination.

7. Make your own Halloween costume. Crafty, original, and totally worth the effort.

8. Buy all the Halloween candy. Maybe not all but, come on, it’s only once a year!
9.  High school football. Maybe it’s not OU football, but there is something nostalgic about a high school stadium and all your old teachers asking what you have done with your life so far.

10. Write a haiku. It is artsy and hip, so why not?

11. Go on a picnic. Since it is no longer 110 degrees outside, you could actually enjoy the outdoors!

12. Read a good book. Because this would not be an article written by me if I didn’t mention books, and because casual reading and fall go hand in hand.

13. Watch Mean Girls and Hocus Pocus. It is never not Mean Girls season and Hocus Pocus is a true classic.

14. Okay, fine, get the pumpkin spice latte. I suppose they only come around once a year.

15. Buy a new scarf or sweater because fall weather is finally here!

16. Watch out! Cheesy moment! Think of things you are really thankful for like friends, family, laughter, and Hurts Donut.

17. Make a pile of leaves. Jump in it. Remember that you are still young.

18. Read Robert Frost’s, “Nothing Gold Can Stay.”

19. Then read, “The Outsiders,” by S.E. Hinton. She is an Oklahoma native!

20. Eat, drink, and be merry with those you cherish. Take joy in the little things. Surround yourself with warmth and happiness.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
