1. Every single girl looks flawless. All the time. Seriously, as a new member you see the girls at their best. Chapter dinner, socials, parties—no one knows how to whip out a killer themed party outfit like a sorority girl. In reality, sorority girls don’t have some special secret power to look perfect at all times—but they know how to pull it together in time for a great photo op.
2. Speaking of photos, sorority girls know how to take the best pictures. With all of the different hand signs and poses, how could they not? You will find yourself hoping your insta feed can live up to those of the older members.
3. Chapter dinner will become the highlight of your week. Seriously. As an underfed college student, that monday night feast will satisfy you for the entire week.
4. They are some of the kindest girls you will ever meet. I know there is a stereotype against the typical “sorority girl.” However, once you take the time to look past the pre-conceived stereotypes, you will realize that a sorority is just an amazing group of women that are here to help and love you. They are the girls that will be there for you on your best and worst days, and you can always count on them to have your back!
5. They are also the people with which you will have your wildest nights. It’s no surprise that sorority girls know how to have fun. When you get a tight-knit group of girls together that you love and trust it is guaranteed to be a good time. So sit back and enjoy—scratch that—get up and dance on that table with your sisters because you have four years of amazing nights ahead of you!
6. Your pledge class will instantly become some of your best friends. Maybe you’ve only known them for a few weeks, but now that you’re sisters you will pretty much become inseparable!
7. Let me tell you, these girls are involved. So many of the women in my sorority are not only leaders in our sorority but are also members in multiple student orgs, are double majoring, and manage to make it to the gym every single day! As a freshman, it is so easy to just be overwhelmed by your upcoming midterms, but these girls handle all of that and more. Before you freak out, just remember, they have a year or two on you and when you get more adjusted you will be just as impressive as they are!
8. You will spend all of your money on apparel. Seriously this is so on-point for my life right now. Every time someone wants to make an order for a cute shirt with your greek letters it will take all of your will power to restrain yourself from forking over the last of your budget to buy it. However, if you find yourself needing yet another baggy sorority sweatshirt, wear it with the pride that you have for being a part of your new home!
9. Rush was one of the worst weeks of your life. While everyone that isn’t rushing probably thinks that all of the girls in beautiful dresses with perfectly curled hair sound crazy for complaining, it is a lot of work. Four full days of girl flirting in hot houses, with sweaty girls, in way too high of heels will get the best of anyone…
10. …but it was also one of the best weeks of your life! Because although it took a lot to get there, running up to your new home on bid day and being hugged by hundreds of strangers that already love you is one of the best feelings in the world!
