Things That Every Girl Should Know
Start writing a post

The world is your oyster, girl! Go out and conquer it, while keeping these few tips in mind.

1. Don’t go to the gas station alone.

It’s always smart to bring someone with you in the event that you need to pump gas at night. People can be sketchy, especially at night. Don’t put yourself in a possibly dangerous situation.

2. Wash the makeup off your face BEFORE you shower.

Say good bye to black mascara smears! Washing away any makeup, sweat, and dirt on your face before a shower is definitely something that everyone should incorporate into their routine.

3. Don’t pop your pimples.

It's like zits practically scream at you until you pay some kind of attention to them. I promise, it is so much better to leave them alone. Just dab some spot healing treatment if you really want to address the issue. If you end up poking a zit, make sure the spot is always moisturized to promote healing.

4. Surround yourself with good people.

You would be surprised at how strongly friends can affect you and the way that you make decisions. It is important to make sure that you are surrounded by people who help create a positive and constructive environment.

5. Carry pepper spray at all times.

If you ever catch yourself in an emergency situation, pepper spray will come in handy. Most of them come on keychains to make it super accessible when you need to use it.

6. Guard your heart.

Don't let just anyone sweep you off your feet. Make sure that whoever enters your life is not just there for one thing before they leave. Protecting yourself from heartache is worth the effort it takes. Remember, never settle.

7. Learn how to budget.

It is important to know what you make and what you need to set aside for bills, a savings account, and other expenses that life throws at you.

8. Don’t overdo the drinking.

There is so much more you can do on a weekend rather than be drunk for more than half of it. Besides a terrible headache and sensitive stomach, too much drinking can lead to all kinds of health problems.

9. Find time for yourself.

“Me time" is the best time. Make sure that there is room for some R&R, because you deserve it, after all.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
