The Things College Students Miss Most About Their Pets

They really are man's best friend.

The Things College Students Miss Most About Their Pets
Alayna Brovont

The first time I left home two years ago, I knew that there would be two things that I definitely miss throughout four months at school until I returned home: my dad's cooking and my cats. I still miss my dad's home-cooked meals, but it's definitely my cats that I miss the most. I find myself FaceTiming my family just so that I can see my cats while I talk to them. And, let me tell you, it's the best part of my week. So, in honor of National Pet Day , here's a list of what college students miss most about their pets when they leave home.

1. They're always down for cuddles.

What's the perfect way to relax after a long day of classes? Cuddling with someone who loves you unconditionally. And no one loves you as unconditionally as your mom and your pets. But sometimes your mom might be too busy to cuddle, but your cats always have time for you . Always. They love those cuddles just as much as you.

2. They don't give you any sass.

I don't know about you, but people seem to be getting sassier and sassier (At least, I know I am). But pets can't talk back. They have no choice but to agree with you, and you know what? If they could talk they'd probably agree with you anyways, because...

3. They know that you're the best person in the world.

You are the bee's knees. The sun that shines. You are their everything. And why shouldn't you be? You're awesome, and you feed them, so that's nice too.

4. They'll follow you around, so you never have to be alone.

Need to go to the bathroom? Don't panic, your dog will be right there with you. Or, if you're as lucky as me, your dog and your two cats will all follow you. It turns everything into a party, and you don't have to ever think that you don't have friends. There's no reason to be lonely when you have pets.

5.They're a fabulous distraction from being productive.

If I was at home right now while typing this up, I know that I would have a cat sitting on my keyboard. It's just common knowledge. Try studying with a cat sitting on your textbook, or sitting on the other side of the room looking really cute! You simply can't do it, and it's wonderful. Pets make procrastination easy.

6.They warm up your bed with their body heat.

Crawling into bed after your cat or dog has been sleeping there is so nice, especially when you can warm up your feet with their love. Is their anything better than that?

7.They're the perfect excuse to not go out.

"Oh, sorry, I can't go out tonight, I already made plans with my best friend (who also happens to be my cat)." Not gonna lie, I've used this one more than once. Pets make the best "Netflix and chill" partners.

8. They're always happy to see you.

There is nothing like pulling up to your house and seeing your cat in the window and your dog wagging her tail when you open the door. They love you, and they're excited to show you just how much. It makes even the most stressful of days bearable.

If you are lucky enough to be spending National Pet Day with your significant other (pet, that is), hug them a little tighter today, and be grateful that your best friend isn't hundreds of miles away.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
