15 Things You Did As A Child That You Still Do Now

As a child, your biggest concern in life was something along the lines of whether or not your parents would let you stay up past your bedtime to devour another bowl of ice cream. It was a thrilling, yet simplistic time. But that time has passed, and you are now an adult whether you like it or not. Though you may not act like a child anymore (hopefully), you still maintain some habits considered to be those of a 5-year-old. But, hey, that's just fine with you. Some things never change, and sometimes there's really no need for them to. Here are 15 things you did as a child that you still, shamelessly, do now.

1. Take the crust off your PB&J sandwich

There’s no wrong time in your life, or in your day for that matter, to have a PB&J. And if you don't want to eat the crust, that's reason enough to rip it all off. When you're in the mood to really throw it back to the good ol' days, you use a heart-shaped cookie cutter to remove the crust.

2. You order off the kids' menu

Proudly...if the food establishment lets you. Honestly, everyone should freely be able to order off the kids' menu. This is America. Adults deserve the same rights and respect children receive when all they want are some dang chicken tenders.

3. You live for recess

And by recess, I mean the Netflix break you take between washing dishes, doing laundry, planning your entire life, and managing all the other items on your adult life to-do list.

4. Take naps

You may not have liked them when you were younger, but you sure as hell wouldn’t be able to survive without them now.

5. Say you’re going to bed at a certain time and never actually do

Your parents “made” you go to bed at a certain time when you were a tiny human. But, as soon as they left the room, you stayed up later reading a book, playing games on your iTouch, or whatever else entertained you as a kid. As an adult, you take on the role of your parents by trying to tell yourself you will go to bed before midnight, but you end up staying up until 2 a.m. wondering where the time went.

6. Jump in bounce houses

Dinosaur, castle and pirate ship bounce houses aren’t just for kids, you know. GAME DAAAY!

7. Go on slides

And by slides, I mean you slide into people’s DMs. You slide in on Twitter, Instagram, Tinder, Snapchat, you name it. And, you go on the occasional water slide too.

8. Color in coloring books

Nope, not those adult coloring books. You’re super hard-core. You only color the princess coloring books.

9. Play dress up

Though they may not be princess dresses anymore, you love slipping on a fancy dress and heels and hittin' the town.

10. Watch animated movies

Being an adult is knowing you can go out on a Friday night, but deciding to stay in, eat cookie dough, and watch a Disney movie instead.

11. Build a fort

Instead of having mediocre forts, your forts are fit for a queen. And they're lit. Your younger self would've been blown away by the forts you build now.

12. Play games and/or make up your own

You haven't lost your creativity and imagination quite yet! You make up your own games and play ones like Cards Against Humanity when your made-up games become too complicated to remember.

13. Have an imaginary friend

These days, it's an imaginary boyfriend, husband, dog...

14. Have sleepovers

You're never too old to have a sleepover! If you have roommates, you have a sleepover every night. And yes, crashing on a friend's couch counts as a sleepover. It's nice to have the company...and backup in case someone breaks into your apartment or you accidentally burn food and start a fire.

15. You freak out over characters at Disney World.

You know they're not real now, but the excitement and magic of seeing them is still there. In your heart, you wish they were real.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.
