There are thousands of grocery stores all around the United States. Whether they are located in a big city or a small town, these grocery stores have to experience the hustle and bustle of the food industry. As an employee of a grocery store, a cashier to be exact, I have had to deal with all sort of issues that came my way. And this is a tribute to all the cashiers who can relate.
1. When it's six o'clock in the morning and you have a customer who wants to buy alcohol.
It's bad enough that you have to put their alcohol away, but to tell them that they woke up early to beat the crowd, drive to the grocery store you work at, get in line to purchase the alcohol they wanted, only to have it not ring up because they can't purchase it until a certain time. Don't look at me like that! You should not be drinking this early in the first place. No alcohol is more important than sleep.
2. When a customer comes into your express line (12 items or less) with a full cart.
Read the sign! We don't have the time or the space to take a full cart piled high with groceries. Clearly the long line of small carts or hand baskets would have given you a clue!
3. "It isn't scanning so it must be free."
No! I can't tell you how many times I have heard this. Just because a large container of chicken wings isn't scanning does not mean that you get it for free! $25 worth of chicken, in no universe, is going to be free.
