Making friends in college is a lot easier than it was in high school.
There are so many great things about living in a dorm your freshman year. You've learned what it feels like to have neighbors down the hall and on the next floor up. It's apparent that leaving your door open all the time causes people to migrate to your room. Not only has living in the dorms helped your friendship count, getting involved on and off campus has helped tremendously. Whether you've gotten involved with a sorority/fraternity or are a part of one of the hundreds of clubs college has to offer, there's a spot for everyone to fit in and meet people who share similar interests. It's almost impossible to not make a friend by being involved with something.
Netflix is the best -- or worst -- worst thing that's happened to you.
Netflix is a great pass time to have while at college especially if you don't have a TV in your dorm room. But after a few late nights spent watching all five seasons of "Friday Night Lights," you realize you probably need to finish that project that you've procrastinated all week that's due the next day. As long as you know how to balance your Netflix bingeing with your homework and other priorities, most of your nights in college will be spent binge-watching a show on Netflix.
Pizza is always a good idea.
Pizza Shuttle, Domino's, and Papa John's. They all sound so much better after 1 a.m. The amount of times you've ordered pizza since August is concerning to yourself and your parents. There's been too many nights spent at the library or after going out that you've found yourself calling them for a late night snack. You probably even have one of those places saved in your contacts on your cell phone.
If you're anything like myself and my roommates, we wake up about 10 minutes before class, brush our teeth, throw on some clothes and we're ready to go. In high school, I always found myself getting up allowing myself enough time to eat breakfast. In college, sleep is so precious. We take advantage of it and more times than not, don't have enough time to walk to the dining center to eat in the morning.
This is something I've learned quickly. There's people from all over the world that attend most universities. It really opens your eyes and makes you realize how much is out there.
Going out all the time has gotten old really fast.
The first month of college, going out multiple times during the week seems like the greatest thing ever. But after a couple of months of that, you find yourself getting more and more tired of it. Sometimes, you've got to stay in one night to catch up on sleep and it's totally acceptable and alright.
Sunday. It's the day where most people have to catch up on everything that they've put off from the previous week. Every time I do find myself needing to do my laundry on a Sunday, I find myself wasting time waiting around for open washers and dryers. You've learned the best time to do your laundry is at random times during week when everyone's out or has class.
College truly is the greatest time of your life.
Being on your own for the first time can be scary, exciting and overwhelming all at once. Getting to spend time with friends basically 24/7 makes being away from home so much better. They're always there for your entertainment and help motivate you when you just aren't quite feeling productive. Always remember to work hard and continue to live life to its fullest and college will forever be the greatest time of your life.
