Things I Miss About My Freshman Year Roommate

Things I miss about my freshman year roommate:

  1. Eating pizza rolls all day every single day. We kept a jumbo pack in our freezer at all times. We actually couldn’t fit anything else into our small freezer because that was the only thing it could fit.
  2. Talking at 2 a.m. from our lofted beds. Thanks for always being awake when I needed to talk to you, even if it was at inconvenient hours of the night.
  3. Going through a breakup and having someone there for me. Coincidentally, we both had bad breakups the same year and I really don’t know what I would have done without you there, and I hope that I helped you through yours.
  4. Watching "Teen Mom" episodes on replay. Laughing at Jenelle was one of my favorite past-times.
  5. We always had each other to make sure our makeup was perfect before going out. Thanks to you, I never went out looking like a clown.
  6. Going on late-night McDonalds runs. To this day, I really don’t want to know how many McChickens we ate that year.
  7. Having a family I could go to when I couldn’t go home for a short break like Easter. I’ll never forget that wonderful Easter that I had with your family and will always be so grateful for that.
  8. Being able to share clothes. I always wanted a sister that I was old enough to swap clothes with, and I finally got one my freshman year! Thank you for always letting me borrow your cute sweaters.
  9. Riding around in our cars listening to Beyonce. I really never liked her before you introduced me to her and I am pretty glad you did. I still listen to "Love On Top" pretty often and always think of you freaking out and turning it up so loud that I thought my ear drums were going to burst.
  10. Having someone to go through everything with. I really don’t know what I would have done without you my freshman year or where I would be if I had never met you. Thank you for being one of the best friends I have ever had and for never leaving. It is rare to find someone who sticks around for everything, ups and downs, but you did. I know that we might not see eye-to-eye on everything, but I love you beyond measure and I am so thankful that I can say that you have become like a sister to me, even not going to the same college anymore. I miss you so much and I am so glad that I will always have you in my life.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
