As if the Thigh Gap trend wasn’t enough, there seems to be a new body-shaming trend in town. Behold the #ThighBrow trend.
First of all, some background: The “Thigh Brow” is the little crease at the top of the thighs when a girl squats or kneels forward. However, this seemingly attainable goal isn’t quite as attainable as girls think: you have to have a very flat stomach, curvy thighs, and small hips, aka the curvy girl’s nightmare.
Celebrities everywhere have been posting Instagrams of their seemingly perfect Thigh Brows, provoking the trend to their millions of fans. If that wasn't enough, a new Insta account has been created to cover the sparking trend. It's @thigh.brows, and its inspirational bio reads, “Thighbrows has the power to change the world, use it for good.” How sweet (and grammatically incorrect).
Khloe Karadashian and Kendall Jenner (who else?)
A whole Insta account had to be created for this? That's when you know.
King Kylie: King of the Thigh Brows Trend
Why, oh why, is there always a new unattainable body trend on the horizon? Why can’t there be one on the positive, satisfying aftereffect of eating an entire Chipotle burrito and then going back for guac?
I’m way too tired of these trends, hooking in already-insecure girls and making them feel like they’ll never look or feel beautiful. This is so ridiculous! It happened with Thigh Gaps, then the "Bikini Bridge,” and on and on. These trends just aren’t attainable for every girl out there, and saying this is the “new sexy body must-have” can completely crush a girl’s self-confidence and warp her own body image. If you got it, flaunt it, but if you have to say, "everyone must have this body trend to be considered hot," that is completely unjust.
At the end of the day, every body is different. Every day I dream to look like Candace Swanepoel, but that would require for me to stretch a good six inches, elongate my legs and torso, and probably the matter of starving myself for weeks on end. Even then, I probably wouldn’t look like Candace because, simply put, I am not Candace Swanepoel and neither are you (unless you’re Candace reading this right now. In that case, hey girl, big fan!).
Here’s to ignoring those crazy body trends and keeping our minds (and bodies) healthy.
