If you've ever been cliff jumping, and its not a usual occurrence, and you're pretty frightened your first time. But what actually brings fear to an overwhelming reality happens without anything even happening. The entire concept of jumping, ever so correlates to our lives today. So what is the actual element in which trembles us to freeze or to not even end up jumping when the time comes? It can't be the approach. We've all had to learn to overcome the uneasiness of public speaking or that first job interview. We know what it takes to go after something that is unavoidable, therefore the approach to the jump can't be the reason. The jump isn't anything new to us either, yes, we've all probably jumped before, but we've also encountered other events that are the equivalent. Pushing ourselves past a point and propelling us into the exact moment we knew was ahead of us. Whether it be taking that exam you really didn't study for, even thought you knew what was on it. Or if its the big game and coach throws you in, but yet you know exactly what the other team was made of. Or even finally facing that one issue with another human being and resolving a real ugly situation that kept you from speaking for so long.
All things most of us have conquered through a lifetime all contain attributes in which we are aware of at the time. The approach is not the cause, neither is the jump, the only element left is the flight. Which some my say is the sole reason; that climax of surpassing all the other aspects is a part in which some don’t enjoy as much as others. However, that mid-air feeling, whether from a six foot fence or a 30 foot cliff, you have already made the commitment and it's go time. You've already conquered what you wanted and that part is almost the most joyful out of all of the elements. That particular feeling of “flying” isn't what makes us tremble, it's what makes us feel most accomplished. The approach, the jump, and the flight are elements in which we all have surpassed in our lifetimes. Not only does it relate to being a cliff jumping daredevil, but also if you're a graduate college student going into your first job interview. All of these can be measured at different heights, like the six foot fence or the 30 foot cliff.
Think to yourself what the scariest part of almost any situation is when you are apart of it. What terrifies you most; everyone is different but there's one particular part that even the most confident people fear. The unknown is the scariest part of this entire event series. Not knowing what is going to happen, how things will go, what the result will be, is terrifying. The comfortability of assurance is what puts people, like myself, as ease. The overwhelming stress, constant worrying, and anticipation can tear someone up in a matter of minutes. All of that is a factor of the unknown. We can sink that game winning shot when coach needs it, we can ace that presentation, we can even resolve that real ugly issue from a year ago. But the main reason we don’t is because we don't know what is in store. The element of the unknown is the most powerful in todays world. I encourage you, when something comes up where you have no idea what might happen, take the leap, you'd be surprised at where you land.
