I think everyone has heard this saying, "You know there is somebody out there who has it much worse than you." There are mixed feelings about this saying, but I don't understand why. Many people say they don't like it because they feel as if their feelings don't matter. But that's not the point at all.
I totally understand being upset. We're human and imperfect, so of course not every day will be full of flowers and rainbows. The whole idea is perspective. Sometimes our world can feel as if it's crumbling when we stay close minded. However, if we expand our thinking, rather than only think about ourselves, we are able to appreciate our lives for all they're worth.
For example, you may find it completely heartbreaking that you got a B on the test in college that you really wanted an A on. But you can't dwell on that. Someone out there would have rejoiced at the fact that they even got to attend college, let alone pass an exam with a B! You are lucky to be enrolled in college, or even high school. There are people throughout the world that would've loved the chance to further their knowledge, but they didn't get the chance. Maybe they had to drop out of school to help their family pay they bills, and maybe all they dream about is the chance to graduate high school. And you are lucky enough to be going to high school or college.
Again, this is in no way invalidating anyone's experiences. But I would like to propose that we all appreciate what is going right in our lives, and instead help any other person who may be experiencing worse times than we do. There is something that we can do, rather than just accept that people have it worse than us. We can choose to love, give, and appreciate the company of others. By being loving towards others, you are able to brighten someone's day. You have the power to change the course of someone's day with a simple kind word. And always help people out, always. You never know what someone else is going through. It could be better or worse than your own situation, but the fact is that you never know what anybody else is experiencing.
So, take away from this article that you never know what anyone else is going through and always be kind and appreciate your life the waySa it is. Nobody has a perfect life, and there is always something to be thankful for. Be thankful for the fact that you woke up this morning and inhale. The fact that you are alive and well and breathing. The fact that you have life left to live and have an adventure. Appreciate the good things that happen in your life, instead of focusing on the negative. There is always something positive to focus on.
