We can all agree that the journey home is not easy and the drive/flight is dreaded for some time, even more so when we have to make the trip alone. Sure, carpooling is nice; however, not all of us have that luxury. Even driving to visit old friends can be exhausting and sometimes you’re forced to make that drive alone. However, what better person to be with than yourself, am I right?
When it comes time to driving home alone, there are perks. First off, you can play whatever music you want, you are your own DJ and you don’t have to sit through the god awful playlist your friend swears is “fire.” So set a playlist out so that way you’re not fumbling around on Pandora during the drive. If you don’t have any music on your phone set up a Spotify, it’s a life saver. Secondly, as the only passenger, you can make stops whenever you want. No judgment if you have to stop to pee every 100 miles or if you want to go through the Chick-fil-A drive thru a few times, you’re calling the shots.
The best way to pass the time is to make phone calls and talk to people you haven’t gotten around to talking to in a while. Call your grandparents say hello, call old friends, blah blah blah, anything to pass the time right?
Leave early, the worst part about driving is driving at night. More traffic, higher likelihood of accidents, and not to mention, the exhaustion that hits. The best way to go is to wake up early morning and get the drive out of the way. If you’re driving more than 4 hours then it’s probably best to always abide by this rule. If it’s longer than a 4 hour drive, plan to make stops. Stop for food, gas and maybe even a short break in between those. It’s okay to take your time and be in no rush at all when driving alone.
Make sure your phone is fully charged if you’re flying and that you bring a car charger with you if you’re driving. Music, communication, and GPS are vital tools you need to survive a trip this long and would be tragic if your device died along the way.
The main thing is to plan ahead, the less stress the better the drive will go because you’re in no rush to get where you’re going and can take breaks whenever you want. Good luck and safe travels in this upcoming year.
